@Sharkonabicycle Have you updated your views on Darrell Taylor?

8.5 sacks this year.

No, because I don't just look at sacks.... he's a liability against the run, can't cover, and there's plenty of pass rush snaps where he completely disappears. 20 or so pressures for 50% of the snap count isn't bad but it's not great either (especially against some of the offenses that were destroyed by injury early on), but he doesn't warrant being on the field full time and prior to the Jets game where he got 2.5 sacks (against a pedestrian offense) he wasn't doing much. 3-4 LBers have to be asked to cover and play the run.... IMO he belongs in a 4-3, not a 3-4.... Someone like TJ Watt when healthy is getting 50+ pressures with 80%+ snap counts and can cover/play the run decently. Taylor at least as of now is NOT the answer.

Bruce Irvin, who is 35 and was sitting on a couch has gotten more snaps (slightly, but more nonetheless) than Taylor.

I know everyone looks at sacks and blows their wad, but that hardly is a measure of their helpfulness to the team. And watching Taylor he often over-pursues, misses gap assignments, gets BLOWN up in the run, and can't cover... Nwosu is the only one who did fuck all this year in the linebacker crew. Brooks can't cover either and offers little in the pass rush. His IQ/gap assignment is okay... don't get me started on Barton. And Mafe I'll excuse because he was extremely raw coming out of College and it was known he'd take 1-2 seasons to get it going (if ever).

Now all said, Taylor has been contributing over the last 5-6 weeks more and more, so MAYBE he's figured out the 3-4 and gotten things going... but I'm not cheering, yet. Maybe a full offseason with Hurtt and the defense bolstering the DL will help too... I can't be TOO hard on the LBers because Woods is 35, and outside of Harris who's been injured, the rest (maybe Mone - who is injured) on the DL are not suited for a 3-4 at all.

Darrell Taylor looks like a pass rush specialist vs an every down player, and I think that's ok. You can bring him in for clear passing situations and then also when you get the other team to the point where they must pass nearly every down (like yesterday), and that's plenty of value if he's effective. He isn't going to be Michael Strahan or Bruce Smith, but I don't think he needs to be.

Seems to me that Taylor struggled early in the season but has picked things up considerably over the past 4 games. Sacks don't tell the whole story but they are indicator of general effectiveness.

Run defense on this team is bad mostly because of our down linemen. Woods is the only 2 gap capable lineman we have.

Exactly right. He wasn't drafted to be an all round defensive star. He was always expected to be a pass rusher.

Saw your second post to JMR, yes - he may only be a situational pass rusher.... I agree the DL needs upgrading, but there's been plenty of missed gap assignments from the LBer crew this season (in addition to missed tackling). The linebacking crew needs work. Brooks can't cover (tackling machine granted), Nwosu is fine, Taylor can't cover or stop the run, and Barton's football IQ and overall athleticism is bleh. He didn't have a bad game against the Jets after Brooks went down but it's been the same story all season.

That said, first year in a new scheme, Neal's been out, Adams who would've been the money linebacker (at least on a lot of plays) went down game #1.... and 1st year for Hurtt... even Waldron needed a bit more time and he's done solid this season.

I wouldn't mind Sewell out of Oregon or Anderson, if Carter is gone and we don't want a QB. Hopefully the Chargers don't blow it against the Broncos (Chiefs almost did) because if they do and the Cards lose I think they jump us.

Chargers may have nothing to play for and could rest their starters.

They may or may not. I think going through Jax is far more preferable to going through Cincy.

100%, its hard to say how it will play out at this point but a lot of it hinges on what happens tonight.

NFL fucked our playoff chances with this schedule, putting DET v GB in primetime sunday night. so if we win, detroit is eliminated and has nothing to play for

No, it just means the NFL knows how the Seahawks game will go before the game is played... and that it will be a must win for both teams

(watch out for some shady ref calls on Seahawks during the rams game, LOL)

Yah, it's impressive... he's just not an every down linebacker as of now... Parsons and Philips are.
I think thats fine. if we build the DL like we need to, he will be money going in on 3rd and long situations

Yeah... That's lame... Wish they would've had both games on at the same time... NFL definitely wants to see GB in the postseason...

Looks like J. Brooks is definitely out for the rest of the year with an ACL injury...

Monday on Seattle Sports’ Pete Carroll Show, the Seahawks’ head coach said that Jordyn Brooks suffered a “legit” ACL injury, meaning the third-year linebacker is done for the season.

Brooks, a first-round pick by Seattle in 2020, currently ranks third in the NFL in tackles this season with 161, behind only Jacksonville’s Foyesade Oluokun (171) and Kansas City’s Nick Bolton (165). He assumed the Seahawks’ middle linebacker and defensive signal-calling roles after the team parted ways with All-Pro Bobby Wagner prior to this season.

“He has an ACL injury and it’s legit,” Carroll told Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk during his weekly Monday conversation. “He had an unfortunate kind of landing on the sidelines over there. Just kind of as he was spinning, he just got his knee torqued. Didn’t get hit on it, (but) as he was kind of rotating around the tackle he landed awkwardly and unfortunately got hurt. That’s a shame. What a great, great player and a great teammate.”

Carroll added during his Monday afternoon press conference that Brooks is headed for surgery.

The 25-year-old Brooks was quickly ruled out for the rest of Seattle’s 23-6 win over the Jets following his injury, with Cody Barton sliding over to the MIKE (middle) linebacker spot and calling the signals. Carroll said that will continue to be the case Sunday against the Rams.

“Cody becomes the MIKE. He’s been the backup MIKE the whole time, which isn’t that big of a deal – he’s a very good play caller so he’ll handle those duties,” Carroll said.

Carroll said Tanner Muse, who took over Barton’s usual position following Brooks’ injury Sunday, “played well,” and that Muse, Jon Rhattigan and others will be looked at to help going forward at linebacker.

“We’re gonna want to see all these guys contributing to help us out. Guys got to step up, and that’s what they’ll do,” Carroll said.

I think @JMR said it earlier about being disappointed with DK this year and I'd tend to agree... It seems like he can't make that big catch or beat good DB's and own them in a game like guys like Devonte Adams, Hill, Diggs, Lamb etc... Watching Devonte Adams go up against Ward yesterday was impressive... Adams pretty much did whatever he wanted with Ward and that was with a backup QB... He seems to make big catches and plays smart...

IMO... Dk's in the 2nd tier of WR's in the league... I don't even think he belongs in the top 10-12...

Isn't it the network that decides which games to flex in or out of the SNF slot? I don't think it's the NFL's call. I also don't think the league really cares a whole lot about which teams make the playoffs, but the networks probably do have some data on which teams get the best ratings. GB is going to draw more than all but a few teams, and we are not one of them.

But I do agree this decision to put the Packers-Lions game in the Sunday night slot disadvantages us. Hopefully if we win and eliminate Detroit in the process, the Lions will be motivated by the chance to knock out the Packers.

I think this is all a bit overblown. The only teams that really lay down on the last week of the season are the teams that are going to the playoffs.

Every player on the Lions has their own incentive to play hard, as does every coach. Just look at what happened to Doug Pederson in Philly. He laid down on the last game of the season, albeit in a blatant way, and got fired for it and he had won a Super Bowl for them!

IMO, the Lions are going to play hard either way. Knocking out a division rival would be pretty good consolation for them.
