It appears the Sox are waiting until after the WS. I still think the Hahn pick would be Espada and I would like that.
Me too buddy. And just because there will be no official announcement until the WS is over, it makes one think that Espada might already unofficially have the job.

If you’re Rick Hahn and got overridden AGAIN in your manager search, why are you still there? If I were Hahn I think I’d resign.

Because Hahn is the best politician in Chicago. He's really bad at his job and faces no criticism from the media. It's always everybody else's fault. He can continue to sit back and collect a big paycheck.

Kenny is his better at that.

I refuse to take a stand for Rick Hahn even if the premise has sound reasoning. He's not worthy of my backing.

I suspect one hang up in signing a manager is Kenny wants his guy Darryl Boston and Hahn wants his guy Ethan Katz on the coaching staff. IMO - guys from outside the Sox org. want to hire their own coaches.

Grandal will like him.

From The Athletic:

But Grifol’s reputation in the league as a well-prepared and indefatigable clubhouse presence extends beyond the recent returns of the rebuilding Royals. His tenure with the organization dates back to 2013, at the outset of a franchise turnaround that culminated in back-to-back World Series appearances. Having reached Triple A as a catcher during his playing days, Grifol initially joined the Royals organization and eventually the big-league club as a hitting coach. Amid the team’s offensive struggles, Grifol transitioned to catching coach midway through 2014, the year the Royals first won the AL pennant. During that time Grifol also overlapped with White Sox assistant general manager and director of player development Chris Getz, who was part of the Royals front office in 2014 and 2015.

Like Getz, Grifol has experience in player development, as he was the Mariners director of minor league operations in 2011, amid stints as a manager, scout and roving instructor in Seattle. Speaking of scouting, Grifol spent the 1992 season playing for the Single-A Fort Myers Miracle in the Twins minor-league system, where he was teammates with current White Sox scouting director Mike Shirley. The 52-year-old Miami native is a bilingual Cuban-American and has also managed in Dominican and Venezuelan winter leagues. Amid his bevy of roles, the carrying traits cited for Grifol are his communication skills, ability to manage people and personalities and run a clubhouse.

no opinion cause he's a complete unknown. on the outside it seems ridiculous as kc didn't hire him. what would the sox see that kc didn't? but who knows? all i know is LSD will have strong 'feelings' about this.

From what I read the royals have new ownership. Ownership brought over their guy from Tampa but who knows?

Can't say I'm thrilled, can't say I'm disappointed. Just kinda neutral I guess. Of course I've always taken the approach that a manager's impact on a team is a bit overrated, especially with the X's & O's when we're talking day-day operations. Where the X factor comes a bit more into play is how he relates to his players and staff. On a team with a number of Cubans and other Hispanics, the fact that he's a Cuban-American and has managed in Dominican and Venezuelan winter leagues, this certainly doesn't hurt. Let's give him a chance and see how it plays out.

Like I've been saying - it's all about placing Kenny's guy (Boston) and Han's guy (Katz) on the coaching staff - so Grifol is about the best that can be done. Neutral is about right.

I'd have to say bringing in Montoyo as the bench coach is a very nice compliment to Grifol as the manager. Montoyo is a very reassuring hire.

Also - been seeing that Grifol brings the fire as a manager.

Hilarious that TLR, who is already history with the Sox gets consulted over the Grifol hire, but not Hahn or Williams.

Moncada, Robert and Jimenez didn't take the leadership by example offered by Pito - so now we will see if a nice guy Cuban manager and the Dominican Charlie Montoyo (also accused of being too nice when the blue Jays fired him) bench coach can light a fire under them.

It looks like the Sox will get new base coaches and a hitting instructor. Which also means new coaching for outfield defense - infield defense and base running.
