theyre now going with Drouin and Ryan Callahan for Tanev lol

If Tbay's sending the 14th pick back the other way it isn't so bad. If not it's probably not even a discussion.yah 3 more years at 5.8 shmill per that Tbay wants to get out of ... Botchford still has the 5th overall going to Tbay as part of the deal ... i like that deal ... for Tbay
I find it unbelievable a) that a 5 year deal wasn't something they could get him to sign, and b) management really thinks he's a 7-year contract talent right now. They must have some seriously high hopes for him.Nikita Zaitsev signs with Maple Leafs for seven years, $31.5 million
Seven years? Wow. Lot of term for a rookie.

My only solace is that $4.5 mil isn't really crazy money anymore. If it goes sour whoever the GM is by then can deal with it one way or another.
No idea. Not my favourite contract.I get that he's 25 and they weren't in a position to give him a 2 year bridge as he'd be UFA at the end, but 7 years seems insane. Like you said, the money isn't crazy for a 3-4 D man. Especially five years from now.
But how much better is a 25 year old gonna get?
No idea. Not my favourite contract.
Thing to keep in mind though is at the moment he's the best RHD the Leafs have. Gave him some leverage I guess. Plus it's not like Lou hasn't handed out some wacky contracts before.
Leafs could use a LW...Well, at least not to date with the Leafs...

It's all good as the final two years will be wiped out with a lockout as the current CBA expires in 2022. E4
