Are people really trying to make the claim that none of our WRs ever had to adjust to a poorly thrown ball last year or that there were no close calls for INTs?

I mean aside from calling Alex perfect, what else is left?

nobody claims smith is perfect. however, there were obvious issues at wr after all the injuries.

That's awfully selective stat selection. Ranking in YPA means very little as third down backs tend to have a pretty high YPA. Or are Ben Tate and CJ Spillman great RBs? Toby Gerhart? Of RBs with 200+ carries, Gore was 12th. Still not great, but at least relevant to the discussion.

Incidentally, if we look at all players for passing, Smith was 40th in YPA. So much for that theory.

What the hell are you talking about?

You want a decent sample to weed out the extremes. QBs need to play a few games at least.

2 of those RBs had 100 carries and Tate 175.

Tate had 11 rushes for 40 on 3rd Down
Toby had 5 rushes for 28 on 3rd Down
Spiller had 2 rushes for 10 on 3rd Down

19 guys had 200+

Frank was behind 11, ahead of 7. I'd say not great. I'd add not good either. It was OK and similar to Beanie Wells.

What can skew Yards Per on a smallish sample is busting a long run when the defense trips or fails. Spiller only had a long of 38 yards.
Toby had the longest and if you take that away he is only taken down so far as same Yards Per Rush as Frank.

That's what it sounds like. Apparently none of his throws required WRs to make adjustments and none of his throws that weren't intercepted came close to being intercepted.

Aside from the 5 INTs, apparently Alex was perfect.

by the end of the season we were left with recievers not even capable of making adjustments.

So Alex was perfect. Got it.

this has nothing to do with smith. if recievers lack the ability the qb doesn't matter.

it's a reason why when talking about manning or brees i think it's absolutely critical to upgrade our skill position players to take advantage of the ability that a top qb brings. u don't sign guys like brees to have them throw to stiffs like crabtree...

No No No No No. If you have no point just don't post vs a stupid strawman. Smith left some nice plays slip by. Down the sideline throws in particular.

I assume it was about an average amount of most things. We all see the highlights and lots of other games. You know a circus catch when you see them. That is not our guys specialty.

How do we know if Alex rarely takes a chance?

vernon gave us as many tds as crabtree had catches in the playoffs. it comes down to ability. crabtree should perform better as a 3rd or even 2nd option at wr.

His YPA Comp% would be an indication of rarely taking chances. The don't show an extreme case of checkdowns or throwaways.

The lack of redzone TDs has something to do with limiting chances of an INT.

He had been solid in that area before so I'd give him half a pass there and the whole offense couldn't close the deal whether it was run or pass.

What does that have to do with adjustments?

ultimately it comes down to ability. vernon has the ability to make plays and he made them. our other recievers didn't have the ability to make plays.

This fucking argument is still going on?!? Bottom line, Smith is great at the throws he doesn't make.

let's see one player steps up and another doesn't. wtf does that tell u about them? dropped passes against the saints and making webster look like the second coming of deion sanders.

it's one thing to say smith is an average qb, but let's not pretend crabtree is any good. too bad he didn't run at the combine, might have saved us a draft pick.

Again alex was great in the TO stat and comeback wins this yr.

Alex was average in everything else.

Our WR play was below average. Vernon Davis is a beast!

End of discussion. You guys are :deadhorse:
