PFF wasn't so high on him:

Below is the PFF draft profile for North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz, which incorporates PFF’s college grades and scouting intel from our team of analysts. To see all of PFF’s 2016 scouting reports, click here.

Position fit: Starting QB

Stats to know: Finished with the ninth-overall grade in the draft class, but had the best raw grade per dropback. Accuracy percentage of 38.5 percent on deep (20+ yard) passes ranked 29th in the draft class. Accuracy percentage of 57.1 percent when pressured tied for 27th in the draft class.

What he does best:
• Arm stands out. Throws with great velocity
• Can fire the ball in there on the deep out/comeback. Made far-hash throws look easy at the college level
• Arm strength on comebacks and seam routes make him a prime candidate for a vertical passing system
• Did a nice job finding the open man and moving the chains in the 1-10 yard range, even if his timing was less than ideal at times
• Did a nice job as a designed runner and as a scrambler in college. Can pick up yards on the ground, but not sure how much his future team will want him to do so at the next level
• Throws with anticipation on first-read throws, can zip the curl route before the wide receiver’s break
• “Shows” touch, but it’s often a much slower throwing motion and his accuracy is hit or miss
• Ranked second in the draft class in adjusted completion percentage at the intermediate (11-20 yard) range at 70.7 percent
• Inexperience. Has his warts, but given how few snaps he’s played, ceiling remains high

Biggest concerns:
Slow to process in the passing game. Will be late on short and intermediate throws, but arm strength bails him out. Will this still work at the next level?
• Rarely got to a third read in his progression, even when running common, staple passing concepts. Their boot play had three options and Wentz would regularly miss the third receiver, even when the first two receivers were covered
• Inexperienced. Much of Wentz’s lure is the physical size and arm, but will he progress and maximize his potential?
Accuracy at 21-30 yard range was well below average, his adjusted completion percentage of 43.5 percent ranked 23rd in the draft class. For a big-armed quarterback, has to take advantage of throws in this range to maximize his potential
• Not always nimble maneuvering the pocket. Attempted only eight passes after breaking the pocket and completed one for negative-five yards

Bottom line: There’s a lot to like about Wentz, but still so many question marks. The size and big arm stand out, and it’s not just aesthetics – his velocity is an asset at the short and intermediate range at the next level. The concern is whether or not the big arm loses accuracy beyond 20 yards to be effective. He’ll flash some touch on the deep ball, but it’s far too inconsistent at this point. Wentz would fit well into a vertical passing offense that will allow him to zip throws into the 15-25 yard range while moving the ball in chunks. His lack of timing in the passing game is a major concern, but if he can iron it out, the upside is immense. Any team drafting Wentz is banking on huge improvement in a number of areas, but given his relative lack of experience, the gamble may just be worthwhile.
Seems to me like they were pretty high on it. Plus, I don't put much stock in PFF on guys that aren't already playing in the NFL. They have Mo Hurst going 3rd in their current mock draft, so...

A few of us on the Cowboys board was following him for the 2016 draft and before he climbed into the top half of the 1st we thought we could draft in in rd 2. No we weren't being homers thinking we could get a top 10 pick in rd 2, early mocks had him going after Dallas 2nd rd pick.
Biggest Risers, Fallers of the Early 2016 NFL Draft Process
Sure, but that article was from February 10th, and it says he had shot up the draft board over the course of the previous several months, so that would suggest he was considered a lock for round 1 several rounds before the draft. The super early mocks did have him lower, I remember that, but then around the end of January/beginning of February they all changed their tune. He was considered a stud with extremely high upside. I just don't remember anyone calling him a "project" unless you're going back to, like, 2015.

Hub Arkush gave an interview last week. He's no super-scout, and I don't always agree with him, but I was intrigued in this case. He declared the following:

1. There's no Wentz or Watson in this draft.
2. None of the QB's are tIop 3 pick worthy
3. There's one top 5 pick caliber QB - Mayfield
4. Rosen & Darnold are top 10 caliber picks
5. Allen is a 3rd round quarterback
It's hilarious how this works over time.
One year a bunch of good QBs enter the league so the next year everyone trades up for shittier QBs.
Those QBs don't workout so no one trades up the next time and teams get good QBs lower in the 1st again which causes everyone to trade up into the top 5 for crappier QBs again the next year.
Around and Around.
They are all so shortsighted.

And as a Bronco fan this is what I love about the Keenum deal. He has shown some promise that things are trending up in his career. IF he flops though it isn't like the Broncos are married to the guy long-term. If he succeeds then the Broncos finally have their answer at QB moving forward for the next few years. He is being given an opportunity and we will just have to wait and see how things pan out. Right now though I would take the Broncos QB situation over quite a few teams in the league.
And over the Broncos situation last year.

Although there is still some potential for that.

Great job by the Colts. They can sit at 6 and get Nelson.
The Giants hold the key to how this first part of the 1st round will go. The could grab Barkeley and change things up.

I barely put much stock into PPF on guys that are already in the league....IDT they are watching every snap of every player in the league...they're looking at stats and forming an opinion.

I think they use the pick unless somebody (like BUF) offers the ranch.

Fournette was a terrible pick and Ramsey is superior to Zeke. This isn't hard.
The Jags just had their best year in decades. Had an identity on offense despite losing all the WRs at various times and the Blake Bortles. This isn't hard.

An identity means shit. Did Jamal Lewis or the defense win the SB for the Ravens?

Ki-Jana Carter and Blair Thomas would be so proud of you right now.
Amazing logic by you.
Kijana Carter sucked and is a RB.
Therefore, RBs suck.

You're wrong.
You have a lot to learn.
Yes the Ravens offensive identity mattered. Their offense and defense fit. Jamal Lewis rushed for over 2,000 yards. Over 400 touches. Over two thousand and two hundred fucking yards. You don't remember because you were only 5 years old, but you can still learn about it in the history books.

Marshall Fulk got drafted 2nd. Trent Dilfer went 6th. Guess Dilfer was the better pick since he's a QB. Drrrrrr.

Senior Draft Analyst for WalterFootball, Charlie Campbell, released a mock draft this morning:

1. Barkley, Browns
2. Darnold, Giants
3. Allen, Jets
4. Mayfield, Browns

12. Rosen, Bills

He says that while at the combine he heard about a possible plan for the Browns to trade for Tyrod Taylor and draft Sayquon Barkely at 1. The first shoe dropped, so he's going with the second dropping, as well.

Always an excellent way to start an argument off, tbh

You have a lot to learn
Much the same can be said to you, I just don't advertise dumb shit like a sub 4 YPC back who isn't a good receiver on top of it somehow being the difference when the Jags had one of the great pass defenses ever last year. But go ahead man, insist it was the RB. Not the uber-elite defense in an era where stopping the pass means you win games.

Yes the Ravens offensive identity mattered
The one where they weren't good? Solid identity there.

Jamal Lewis rushed for over 2,000 yards. Over 400 touches. Over two thousand and two hundred fucking yards
That's very nice, but it pales in comparison to the defense on that team. Much needed with Dilfer during a playoff run, but alas he is a RB.

You don't remember because you were only 5 years old, but you can still learn about it in the history books.
No, but it was talked about plenty. Very few talk about Lewis, many remember their defense. One is much more valuable than the other.

Marshall Fulk got drafted 2nd. Trent Dilfer went 6th. Guess Dilfer was the better pick since he's a QB. Drrrrrr.
Is Dilfer an elite QB like Ramsey is a CB; is Dilfer even average, or are we making weak comparisons just to be prove a non-existent point. It's the latter.
