I can't think of one person who thought Smith would be what he was by week one, but IMO at 80% he'll be the second best LB on the team.

Can't wait to see this guy in game action.

And I can't think of anyone who suggested it. reread

Clearly Jerry's comments about him playing in the playoffs were ridiculous and complete bull shit. a while back when the feeling started to regenerate and he was posting videos we were led to believe he'd be nearing full recovery physically by Fall. Now that doesn't seem to be close to the case. But it's a long way off and who knows what's real versus half truth when it comes to his health. I don't think he'll be 80% even, but I have no clue how to really measure that to say confidently one way or the other. He just lifted his toes. That sounds great, but also sounds like he has a long ways to go. Also we just found out his recovery was slower than most. I'm not sure what that means since we were told no two people heal the same but obviously it isn't a good thing. I think when (if) we see him in the preseason we will get a better feel. I could see him starting week 1 at the Mike and I could see him starting on IR for the first 6 weeks.

And now we signed Durant. No clue if that is related to Smith, Wilson, both or neither but I'm guessing if the team was confident that Smith was going to be a week 1, 3 down starter they would not have signed Durant.

Maybe, maybe not. As I said I don't know.
I prefer to remain objective, but that's just me

I don't know...year 3 and if Wilson doesn't get suspended Smith doesn't start doesn't sound all that objective to me. To each his own I suppose

Back in january I was thinking that maybe his nerve would not heal. Given the recent developments I don't know why he should not be able to give us lots of snaps. If his nerve continues to heal well he would become a major steal. His college tape was sick. It was like it took him one step to be at full speed.

okay....I reread again.

I'll just say....I disagree and forget the adjectives
You took my quote about year 2 and Smith possibly not starting if Wilson doesn't get suspended and applied it to year 3.

Lets not get our hopes too high on Smith.

Why not?
I understand he may never be fully healthy, but at this point my hopes are high.
Unless he's 100% there is nothing to get excited about.

the problem with Smith is expecting too much too soon. Give him time, be happy if he plays a role and take it from there. Maybe he is a phenom by year end, or maybe he is a backup all year. Patience is the key, but my hopes are still very high for the long term.

Agree, but there's still plenty of reason to have high hopes about his future.
