TRSullivan reporting that Hamels and Deikman to Texas, along with some cash. Texas sends Harrison, Alfaro, NWilliams, Jake Thompson, Alec Asher, and Jerak Eickhoff.

Sad to see Alfaro go. Been hearing how he is the future at C for years now. Oh well. Thompson hurts, but I'll trade our 4/5/6 and lowers for Cole Hamels any day. Sucks about Harry, but with his injuries I'm not too sad to see him go. I am surprised an NL team wanted him. Wonder if he is flipped back to the AL. Last thing I'd want is him swinging the bat every week.

Should be a shot in the arm for the team this year, but the big thing is club control until what, 2019 counting the option year? The thought of Hamels and Yu at the top of the rotation next year is exciting to say the least

A lot to give up but Yu and Hamels at the top of our rotation next season is one of the better 1/2's in all of baseball. And follow them with a hopefully healthy Holland, Perez and Chi Chi or Gallardo and all we need is a better catcher and pen

Cash is 9.5 million plus Harrison's remaining contract....for a total of around 34 million.

Yup, BP arms and a catcher are what we need now. I'm hearing Philly took on all of Matts contract and then kicked in another $9.5M for Cole. Not too bad of a price paid. Our farm system hasn't really been developing our prospects at a very solid rate lately, so trading them for a known commodity is ok. We didn't give up nomar or gallo, so I'm happy.

We also got a RP named Diekman(sp). Anyone know anything about him?

I have heard some Philly fans say good riddance, and others say "can't believe we threw him in as well". I figure he is a BP arm that is joining a struggling BP. At worst he fits right in, at best he is a solid addition.

I'm hoping that Cole can be a mentor to Holland. Derek did his best around the time Lee was here, maybe that same situation exists this time. A legit, American ace to show Holland how to act and prepare. I only call out American because I'm not sure how much time Yu really spends with the rest of the staff due to cultural and language differences. He's probably not someone Derek can sit and be a dork with.

yeah, that will be key. Can't believe he allowed a trade to Texas and supposedly blocked Houston. Granted Houston sucks, but they are indoors and in the hunt this year with a solid young team. :noidea:

He couldn't have blocked the trade to Texas even if he wanted to.

Supposedly his wife has family in dfw and he liked the idea.

Yep, and at $22MM/yr, it's a relatively team-friendly contract. He'd earn a lot more than that as a FA.

Texas is saving nearly $50 million on this deal.

Cowlishaw: Buyer beware! Desperate Rangers risking it all for Cole Hamels | Dallas Morning News

This article by Cowlishaw is complete trash. He acts like Hamels is a rental and this trade is for this year. Dallas really does have some clowns writing the sports.
It is complete trash. The Rangers didn't give up either of their top two prospects, any of their young kids already in the majors, they dumped Harrison's salary and they had Philly eat some money. Other than having Philly ship him down here for free, the Rangers did a heck of a job
