Sources are confirming that Ben Howland and OSU are in talks.....

That is beyond huge for Oregon State.

upgrade for osu and he can stick it to ucla too...win/win

I read that Damon Stoudamire is also a candidate. That might also be a potential win/win.

PR nightmare. That hire could go up in flames quick. Local guy, yes. But with his history in the city of Portland, both in HS and NBA, it would leave several heads shaking at that hire.

Unfortunately we at State really don't pay top dollar for anything, including coaches. Not sure who we end up getting as a BB coach, but anything is an upgrade as long as "defense" is emphasized as important along with a decent offense.

D Stoudamire? Please...get someone with some real coaching experience, maybe THAT guy at Gonzaga (Frie?) wants a change of venue?

Mark Few would be a home run hire but I doubt he'll take it. He's turned down better programs in the past.

Yeah I know, but at least give the guy a call and entertain the idea in the media...may lead to a bigger bite in the coaching pond.:noidea:

Oh yes I agree with that. The AD would be doing the basketball program a disservice if he didn't at least pick up the phone and call Few. Dave Rose would also be another candidate, at least I would strongly consider him. He's pulled in multiple top 100 recruits to BYU. And has developed players really well there. He's turned them into an NCAA tournament team practically every year.

I like it...wouldn't be the 1st time coaches from these two schools have a tie.

It would probably take a 2 million dollar plus commitment but I think Oregon St would be willing to pay that out. He would be a good fit. Has west coast recruiting ties.

^ Not sure a quick decision needs to be made, the sooner the better I spose. But a few phone calls to some elite wouldn't hurt in my OP. Hell, I don't know what State can afford here.

I see Lester "the ******or" Conner makes the list AND he played for Ralph Miller, our last late great coach at State. Like seeing his name there. Why no Gary Payton? Another ex great at State and his kid will be playing there as well.

Hard to think of a better move than this if it happens for OSU.

No way Few goes to OSU, not even worth the phone call. Few has turned down far, far, better offers than Corvallis. Howland would be a hell of a snag. DS wouldn't do it because it's better to be an assistant at AZ than head coach at OSU.
