It really is puzzling, given how excellent he has been in the past. You gotta wonder whether the humiliation will motivate him or do him more harm.

I don't think it's that complicated actually. His velocity went from exceptional to average. That changes the entire calculus of how he has to pitch, of how he's pitched his whole life. Changes his focus, his confidence, his pitch selection, etc.

The mystery is why the velocity went away, but once you posit that, what's followed this year hasn't been that difficult to understand. He's struggling to learn to pitch a whole new way, in real games vs the best hitters in the world.

I do wonder if we need to keep the surging Belt's bat in the lineup more. This Hector-as-personal catcher stuff (for Timmy anyway) is clearly bullshit.

Yup, from that small sample size I can accurately predict the future. Which I won't do, because mama said never to show off in front of others.

Well, your mama taught you right. But I can infer that since you thought we were a better team than this, that you'd predict we miss the playoffs, from this one game?

I think it's doing more harm at this point.

Nah, I am not channeling Cazic, or Nolan, or TitoMac, nor any of the other crazies.

I do think we are a better team than how we are performing today, just frustrated at this exhibition of bad baseball, at Timmy, etc.

And it all evidently started with my jinx post of Zimmermann being a sub-.500 pitcher with an ERA of 2.75. Colin taught me well how to jinx. From now on, I will attempt to keep jinxing posts to a minimum.

This is pretty much it.

Which brings ol' msg back to the minor league idea...is it more or less humiliating to keep getting shelled in the majors, or to drop down to get some confidence back (but it's still a 'demotion')?

I honestly don't know. I do wonder how long they can just keep throwing him out there...

Absolutely right...I'd rather turn the page and save the pen. If it was a 3 or even 4 run lead, who knows. Not enough time to get 6+

I think this game (should) effectively put an end to the "personal catcher" experiment with Timmy. He pitched against two struggling lineups and did well. He pitched in the heat against a good lineup and got shelled. The same things (give or take obviously) probably would have happened with Buster. I think Bochy was trying to find something to give Timmy a psychological edge by using Hector to catch.

I really don't know, either. But Timmy losing focus on a pitch by pitch basis is entirely fixable immediately.

He might round into a very solid 3rd starter which is all this team needs.

At what cost though - we cant pay our no 3 $20M+ when we have holes everywhere and lot of the plugs open to leave at the end of the season.

Not mention the fact he is not even close to the number three on this staff.

I am quite concerned by how this is going to play out.

you guys need to start circlejerk repping yourselves. Out of all the major fan bases here, you guys have the smallest rep.

And everyone on the Hoop knows that the one with the biggest rep = biggest peen :tsk:

Yup.

Mercy rule, given the weather conditions and the Giants record when down by 3+ runs.

It's only one game
