Its game week boys. Lets go 49ers. This should be a game the 49ers win. If they lose this game it might be a long season. I cant wait for this game. Kelly will open the play book up and we will see what this team really is.

I agree. First time to really see the offensive playbook. We will also see how good this oline is because the Rams from seven is dominant. I do think the 49ers have a chance to win this one at home. If not, the next stretch of games is brutal.

This is the making of 'going back to basics', being able to run and being able to stop the run. Seems both sides will want to run and play run D. I'm going to take the Under on that game.

ST's will have to be good too. Not asking for a TD on a KR or PR, but no turnovers for sure, no blown coverage, make the make-able field goals, no bad snaps, and no missed blocks.

Chip Kelly's offense does not employ a fullback. That is why Miller was trying to become a tight end

The biggest worry in this game is whether the Niners D can stop the run. If we can, we can win. If we can't, we'll lose badly. I think our pass rush and pass defense should do pretty well against Case Keenum (yea, WHO?), but Gurley is a beast and our biggest problem in PS was stopping the run.

maybe on obvious passing downs....maybe, but otherwise don't think this is the combo we want. We need run stoppers on 1st and 2nd downs, so i'd go Purcell in for Buckner.

i would expect Buckner will do well eventually, but don't need to rush him game 1.

Yea, the line looked ok last year the first game and went downhill from there but this line is much better.

to me this should always be the plan, stop the run first. we don't always have to stack the box to do it, but unless we stop the opponent from running, the pass defense won't matter.

on offense, it has been establish the run for years now. sometimes we could and sometimes we couldn't, but that is how we should always approach games.

You never know. They won their opener last year even with Kaepernick at QB so they could pull one off again. I'd be surprised but not stunned.

Run the ball and stop the run....that is the calling for both teams heading into this game. A lot of times you can throw out records given it's a divisional game. Home opener....I can see SF winning. They'll be a 4/5 win team or so......so this one is definitely one of the gettable games.

Aaron Donald is a stud and Hyde is more adept inside i believe? IF so, we'll have a harder time running than them. If Davis was a long time RG i'd have more confidence too, but alas....

Too bad we lost Ian else i'd think the line would reach 'solid' THIS season. But that is football so no tears.

49ers' priority objective: containing Rams star Aaron Donald

Ok, they certainly have to account for Aaron Donald, does he come out on passing downs? After reading this article it appears not. so we can't force them to go nickel and remove Donald.

Well, IF he forces us to throw a little more than we want to, so be it. This beats "banging our head on the Donald wall". Since Gabbert tends to get passes off quickly and short, we should be ok throwing it a little more.

Kelly doesn't rule out using Kap off bench as runner

agree with not having to change your game plan should Kaep go in. More specifically, i wouldn't try to run more just because Kaep.

BTW - it isn't only the speed of the QB, there is the ability to read the DE, the fake/hand-off exchange, and quickness in the your first few steps. IMO Kaep is better at the first two, but not the third.
