Yeah, that was a nice surprise as the wife and I made our way out to Peoria last night; we live in the East Valley a good hour away. That being said, a couple of observations:

- Cano is still gonna be real good, so fun to watch.
- Mitch Hanigar looks like the real deal. This is the second ST game we have made it to, and in both outings he has really impressed. Steal.
- Nothing new here, but Martin in center field has a rocket of an arm.
- The outfield defense is legit, speed up and down.
- Dyson is really quick, he's not gonna be an easy out.
- Vogelbach looks a little raw still, but his power is noticeable. He hit's the warning track with the flip of his wrist. If and when he puts it all together dude is gonna mash; his D at first was solid.
- Segura has a much more solid base than we've had in recent years at short. Segura has a frame similar to that of Kyle Seager which should bode well for his power, but I hope it doesn't hinder his speed.
- Overall, I like what I've seen from this team that will no doubt compete for the division. That being said, our bullpen will be our achilles heal so luckily we have a lineup that can score runs because we will need them.

Just picked up tickets for my last game of spring against the Angels on Friday, but easily more excited for the season to start.

And for spring training info, the M's new scoreboard is the best one I have seen in the valley. It used to be the worst. All things pointing in the right direction for this season.

Servais says O'Malley's appendectomy went fine. Could be in today to see Mariners trainers, but no timetable yet on possible return.

Shae Simmons played catch yesterday in first step back from sore forearm. Cishek to throw bullpen Thur.; Zych close to getting into games.

The Mariner's starters have been getting hammered the past few ST games. Thankfully it's not anyone who looks to be in line for a rotation spot to start the season, that said if any of these guys are trying to make a case for a bp spot they're not doing a very good job, lol.

Yeah, that LED wall is nice! That being said, I still think Salt River Fields in Scottsdale (D-Backs/Rockies) is the best facility in the Cactus League. It has a great baseball vibe and the facility is on the east side which helps us :D

I'm not down there this year but all reports I have seen is Vogelbach has been semi garbage. I wonder if he caught the Ackley disease of spending all his time trying on defense and not enough on offense.

Good stuff... I like to see the updates from those that get to see the spring games in person.

I haven't been impressed with Vogelbach or Valencia in ST. From what I have seen from Vogelbach AB's is raw talent but often looks over matched. We will see how he turns out this season, but it feels like they are trying to force him into a starting role

Dipoto says Vogelbach needs time to work on things in AAA. but sees him on similar situation to Zunino/Paxton last year.

------------------------

I said earlier he wasn't driving the ball but only looking to make contact. I wonder if this played a part?

It is nice, but being on the east side made it further for us so that is the only negative I had against it. But yes, great park.

Mariners option Vogelbach to AAA. Surprising move.
Like I said in my previous post prior to his option, he still looks pretty raw. I'm a little disappointed personally because I really want him to be good, but for me not that surprised from what I saw in the couple of games that I've been to this spring. That being said, it makes me think that 1st base will be a point of emphasis at the deadline in the event we are in the hunt.

Very Possible, lot can happen between now and then but very possible.

I absolutely think it does! My impression of his AB's was an inconsistent approach and a player that didn't look comfortable executing at the plate so his move was... contact. Not always quality contact, but simply bat on ball. He looked over matched often. I am so glad Dipoto did this, I was afraid they would try and force it.

Made you wonder why they put Motter over at first the last few days....

Funny because I was at one of the gas Motter subbed in at 1B and I thought it was weird, but never put 2 and 2 together. Nice call.

Do you think this clinches a spot on the Opening Day roster for Motter? I kinda figured he was the frontrunner for the utility infield spot anyway, but this move would seemingly either give the 1st base job to Valencia outright or open up what would have been Vogelbach's platoon role for someone else to take.

edit: Off-topic question for you guys: Have you seen the replica Griffey statue yet? The M's posted a video unveiling it on twitter yesterday and I thought it looked pretty cool.

With O'Malley temporarily unavailable, Motter is going to make the team. The only position player battle left is between Heredia and Gamel. Heredia seems to go okay in a utility role. I think Gamel needs to start. So, I'm thinking Heredia makes the team and Gamel starts in Tacoma. He can rack up good numbers down there and make interesting trade bait in July.
