One big positive out of Mariners' 9-2 loss - 6-foot-8 Max Povse with 3 perfect innings. He's yet to allow a hit or walk in 6 IP this spring.

=====================

I watched him on TV the other day and really liked his stuff. Also like Andrew Moore as well. De Jong? Not so much and same as Martin.

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Mariners made their first round of cuts from Major League camp on Monday, moving nine players to the Minor League side, including hard-throwing reliever Thyago Vieira and former first-round Draft pick D.J. Peterson.

The moves leave Seattle with 53 players in big league camp, needing to get down to a final 25 by Opening Day on April 3.

Four players off the 40-man roster were moved, with left-handed reliever Paul Fry and Peterson, a corner infielder who is ranked No. 11 among Mariners prospects by MLBPipeline.com, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Vieira (ranked No. 12) and left-handed reliever Zac Curtis were optioned to Double-A Arkansas.

The other five players were non-roster invitees who were reassigned to the Minor League camp -- right-handed pitchers Dylan Unsworth and Peter Tago, outfielder Kyle Waldrop and catchers Marcus Littlewood and Tyler Marlette.

^ I think they cut the wrong people. I know it's still preseason and all, but are any of the pitchers even TRYING out there today?! Last I saw, 23-1, and only halfway through?!

Here's where the new ownership is put to the test.

It sounds like Iwakuma was just completely out of synch all day and Milwaukee piled up the hits and runs in the 4th.

Meanwhile Cano, Cruz, and Segura are killing it in the WBC from what I've watched. Hopefully they come out with juices flowing and we start hot despite iffy starting pitching. Just don't get hurt!

I like it. It's nice to have 3 out of our top 5 guys in the lineup in regular season mode already.

Cruz has been redhot since the first day of camp. I don't know how the old man is beating the drug testing, but God bless him for it. Maybe he learned some tricks from fellow DR countrymen Joey Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion.

Made it to AZ this morning at 1:00 am and now it is game time (in a couple hours). It is suppose to be low to mid 90's all week. That was nothing while living here, but now after being in WA for the last 8 months...ouchie!!

Please no 20+ run games. I will be a lobster.

I survived the heat!!!! Great seats. First row 5 seats down from White Sox dugout. Haniger just looks the part. Some guys look lucky in spring but he looks legit. Tyler Smith has a nice level, smooth swing and ball jumps off his bat. This might, crossing fingers, be Paxton's year. He looks more engaged and his delivery is effortless.

Not much sleep last night, so not much looking around. Let's see what tomorrow brings. Go M's!!!

A bit OT, but this board (Mariners) constantly logs me out. Anyone else have that problem? Doesn't happen on the Seahawks board.

I've had this happen before. I think it's just a SportsHoopla glitch. Maybe clear your cookies and see if that helps.

Really like what Haniger has done so far. We're due for a young prospect to pan out and actually become a good player (before we trade them, of course)

Haniger is going to do good things as our starting right fielder. Also, he looks a bit like Michael Saunders, only a bit shorter and with darker hair.
