What are the Cherry Popping, I mean, Cherry Picking splits, on how many assists Hayward has, and the Jazz overall FG%; Points; Turnovers; or Wins?

You can use ranges, such as when Hayward has 3-4 assists, the Jazz Points have been 90-95 X many times, 96-100 Y many times, etc.

And do it for all of the assist ranges (I split them by two assists per range, but you can adjust it how you want), and for each of those 4 categories? Maybe you don't have to do wins, since the Jazz don't win many anyways.

WHY ISN'T BURKE ON THIS LIST? He's played more games (57) than the minimally qualified player (39). He has the same total in assists as Chalmers (305) in fewer games (57 compared to 60). Other rookies are on the list. There are two Portland players, so it's clear you don't have to lead your team to be on the list (not that that would make any sense to exclude).

2013-14 Regular Season NBA Player Stats and League Leaders - Assists

Within reason, I don't like qualifiers. Alex Smith was third or fourth in QB rating and yards per attempt and first in completion percentage but didn't qualify because he threw 218 times and 224 was needed. It is designed to remove small sample sizes and backups, but 218 is a big enough sample size IMO and Smith was the starter until injury. This year, a true backup in Chicago threw exactly 224, but if one pass were removed, his numbers would be unreliable? I think a sport historian should be able to make exception. The NFL used to have 14 games and thus only 196 passes were needed then . 196 passes were big enough sample size, but not 218? IMO, 200 should be enough, even if they go to 18 games. No one incidentally throws 200 times. If you threw 200 times, you really played QB and thus should count.

Hayward is on the list. I'm not sure what you're upset about, after all.

Burke averages enough to be on that list. He averages 5.4 assists per game - that's more than some of them. So I don't like people being left off, especially on my team. I especially don't like it if I don't understand why.

AND NO SPONSORS ON THE JERSEYS!!!

I know that this might jinx it and he has not been very consistent, but this is the best stretch of Trey Burke's career so far. I know it's not much because others have done better in their rookie year and other years. But I'm trying to look for a switch.

In the last six games, he's: Trey Burke 2013-14 Game Log | Basketball-Reference.com

I his first 50+ games, he was: Trey Burke 2013-14 Game Log | Basketball-Reference.com

So, he's down in rebounds and marginally down in assists, but he's improved field goal wise (2 and 3 pointers) and points wise. We lost all the games and these games don't matter, but maybe he's getting more comfortable because of that. Not because of losing, but because the games are just there. Right now, any sign of improvement is good for me. I've settled for that. Not saying it is, but even if it is artificial.

It's only the third quarter, but I think it's safe to say that I did jinx him. However, it's only one game so far. I will wait for him to have a bad game next time before I say he isn't improving. Everyone knows he's not there.

Yes, I know there's no such thing as jinxing. Also, I wasn't making a strong case that he really did turn a corner. I told you I was looking for any sign and I will take any little thing even if it wasn't real.

By the way, my friend got an autographed picture of him yesterday at a sports store (and took a picture with him and two cheerleaders). He was signing them. I gave him the ticket to go get the autograph for me because I was celebrating my wife's birthday. He got to meet him and I got an autograph. Win-win. I would rather have Hayward's if I were getting a current Jazz player's, but it's good to have one, especially if free and I didn't have to wait in line for it.

Since his 30-55, 18.5 points per game, 11-22 3-PT shooting four game streak, he is 21-57, 14.5 PPG, 7-17 3-PT shooting in the last four. Assists and steals are about the same, more rebounds. Darn it, Burke! :(

After going 30-55 (54.5%) in four games, Burke has gone 32-94 (34%) in the 8 games since. 6-23 (26%) in the last three and 3-15 (20%) in the last two. Not finishing well. We have 8 games or so left to do something. 40%

Trey can't shoot yet and maybe ever, but he's my PG for a day. He got 8 assists. The fact that that makes me happy shows how bad it has gotten. I will always praise the good and critique the bad; hopefully, praise eventually will outweigh the critiques. Trey couldn't be brought in slowly like Sloan brought in Deron or would have with Sloan. He also doesn't have as good of team to work with. Give him Boozer and Burke's assists go to 7 a game. The rest he needs to do the improving. I like Kanter and Favors but I feel Boozer's game is more conducive to assists. Kanter and Favors play differently in my opinion. I'll leave it to others to talk about how good they are compared to Boozer.

Hayward has gotten 8+ assists 12 times. So you were happy for at least 12 games this year.

Ok.

But Burks, Jefferson, and Williams can do pick and rolls. So their games are conducive to pick and roll assists.

Instead of focusing on what Kanter and Favors can't do, there are 3 capable players that can do the pick and roll. Burks, Jefferson, and Williams have impressed me. On top of that, they don't seem to get called for the offensive fouls that someone like Boozer would, which shows that they exhibit good body control.

Burke needs to use them in that way, instead of Favors or Kanter. Hayward uses the above 3 in pick and rolls.

When Burke tries, things don't happen the same way.

A few minutes ago, I did see him do a pick and roll with Williams, and Williams scored the driving layup. That's the first I've seen Burke do that play, maybe in a few months (taking into account what my game frequency is, and what I choose to watch when I'm watching, can't watch all 10 players, it's hard).

While when I see Hayward, he has a few pick and roll plays a game, and looks better doing it, hence why I see his ball handling as several notches above what Burke is showing.

Just a box score look, but wow! Great job, Burke! Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors - Box Score - April 06, 2014 - ESPN

Still the second best in the game, though, with Curry doing it all. Yes, bad loss, garbage time, but whatever. We need some big production games. We wanted a GS loss, though, vbecause we have their pick.

24, 15, 4, and 1. 10-21 isn''t great, but ain't Burkesque bad - especially considering the buzzer beater might not have been a "real" shot (didn't see from where).
