If he can't control himself in preseason, it's just a matter of time before he forces the league to suspend him for a year. I just hope the player he tries to take out to earn that year long break isn't a Steeler!!!

Birds of a feather, right? Lewis doesn't hold his players accountable for these sort of actions so why would they change?

Yes. But you'd think repeatedly losing games and money would get his attention eventually but you're right if the HC and owner don't care why should the players.

This shit has been going on for almost a decade & Lewis keeps on getting extensions. Ownership seems perfectly fine with it.

For the love of god..... You're starting qb (Ben), starting receiver (Bryant), and starting running back (Bell) have all served suspensions for longer than Burfict. Is ownership "fine with it?"

Nah.... I think his suspension has been discussed enough. If I have any issue with his suspension its with the arbitrary nature of it. If the hit is illegal and worthy of a 5 game suspension, why reduce it to 3? I just don't get how they legislate this stuff.

My point is that every team has players that have faced suspension. And I believe every team would take Burfict.

I see your point. But personal misconduct vs. reefer?

Ben's suspension was questionable, but he was never found guilty of anything. I do think he was a jackass for putting himself into those situations. But again, never found guilty of anything. His continuous display of that jackassery brought bad publicity to the NFL so they had to do something to save face. I don't blame them, but Ben grew up & I'm "fine with it".

I don't like having our F.O. be "fine with" the reefer bullshit with Bell & Bryant. But in reality that is far less of a problem than someone going around purposely injuring people on the football field. Bell & Bryant want to change and have continuously made strides to clean themselves up, has Burfict? I have no problems cutting ties with Bell or Bryant should they continue to choose reefer over their team.

Burfict is a clown. And not that he could ever figure this out himself but for the rest of his career he'll be under the NFL microscope due to his previous on field actions. And the disgusting thing is he'll fuck again @ some point during the season, he just doesn't know better. Sadly it's only a matter of time before he seriously injures & ends someone's career. He's a cheap shot artist that specializes in dirty/illegal hits.

Name all the other teams right now that have a player on their roster that's been fined for illegal hits repeatedly like Burfict. And I don't believe that every team in the league would want to put up w/ a headache like Burfict. Most of them yes, but not all of them.

Well, James Harrison was once accused of intentionally trying to hurt people. And he said himself that his 'rep' as a dirty player didn't exist until Roger Goodell started fining him in 2010. It was Harrison that was the first to ever receive a suspension due to a hit. And he was the first poster child for the players side vs. the commish side.

I don't remember any Steeler fans asking for Harrison to be kicked off the team.

And I'll be honest - I have a lot more trouble with the fact that Bengals employ Pacman Jones and Joe Mixon than I do with Votaze Burfict.

The Steelers - Super Bowls.
The Bengals - Don't have anything besides Boomer and Munoz.

Until the Bengals start to do something worthwhile, the perception won't flip. It's just the way it is.

I don't ever recall seeing Harrison punching grown men in the dick, twisting ankles or spitting in their faces. That's something I don't know how anyone can support! Sure Harrison knocked a few people unconscious, but he changed the way he plays.

I'm not a fan of the shit after the play. There is no need for that..... Harrison did have his punching fit against the guy in the Super Bowl. Bonus points though as it wasn't in the balls.

I missed some of this, but if I'm gathering the info correctly here, you are comparing Harrison to Burfict.

Seriously?

Harrison absolutely played on the edge, and was handed a LOT of fines by the league. Were some of those fines deserved? Yes. Were some "rep" hits that other players might not have gotten fined for? I think so. But IIRC, he was never suspended for a game.

Burfict is a good football player and he seems to stay together off the field, but he's ass hole...even something as simple as a practice...he can't stay within the lines. CIN will probably extend him or another team will take a shot, but I think this is his MO.

Mixon...f-ked up, but I'm not willing to take his entire career away because if it...Adam Jones...I don't get it. He's been past his prime, and his off the field issues are to the point now that he probably feels entitled to play in the NFL.

Harrison was in fact the first person to be suspended for a hit on the field by Roger Goodel. He received the suspension for his hit on Colt McCoy. He was also the first player in the Goodel regime that started racking up obscene amounts of fines for things occurring on the field. In a lot of ways he was the 'example' Goodel was making with his new comish powers to punish as he pleases. Harrison himself was the first to point out the hypocracy.... A guy that had played at a high level for several years was now being called cheap because the commish was fining him out the ass. And his peers followed suit by labeling him the dirtiest player in the NFL (whether you read much into those 'surveys' or not).

Am I comparing Harrison to Burfict? Not exactly. Burfict has done a few shady things on the field that bothered me. The ankle twisting of the Panthers players bugged me. And the inability to stay away from Antonio Brown at a crucial moment bugged me. Hitting guys hard in the field of play does not bug me.... But he's getting fined for it now. Interestingly, one guy that sticks up for Burfict is James Harrison... FWIW.

BTW -- That practice thing was completely overblown. It was clear that Burfict hit the guy in the waist and slid down. That's a play that happens in every training camp in the league. It's only news because it's Burfict.

I'll trust your fact check and stand corrected. I do remember the hit on McCoy but do not remember him missing a game due to it.

Your 2nd paragraph imo is what separates him from Harrison...hard nosed and over the edge at times...that was Harrison...this WWE crap is a different level...it should bug you...any fan of the sport. What turns me against him even more...he's talented enough to be one of the top 5 ILBs in the game without doing it.

2010 was the year that Harrison was fined out the ying yang... But he played in all 16 games. Don't remember if that was the same year of the McCoy hit.

Harrison's 2010 season was marred by committing several penalties and fouls. He was fined for the hits that were deemed to be illegal by referees and the NFL. In Week 2, Harrison was fined for flipping Vince Young of the Titans.[28] On October 17, he knocked out two Browns wide receivers; Mohammed Massaquoi, and his former college teammate, Josh Cribbs. On Halloween against the Saints, he hit quarterback Drew Brees late from behind. Against the Raiders, he hit another QB, Jason Campbell. The following week at Buffalo, another incident occurred when Ryan Fitzpatrick had thrown a complete pass to David Nelson, Harrison came out of the line and spearedFitzpatrick. Harrison was fined an estimated $120,000 in total.

EDIT... found it. 2011

Steelers' Harrison banned 1 game for McCoy hit

PIT 21, CLE 18...obviously happy for the road win...even w/o their #1 overall draft pick, the Browns DEF came to play yesterday. Kizer was a steal as a 2nd rd player...clearly has the arm talent to be a big time player in the league, but it wasn't going to happen in week one. I think the Steelers front 7 played well without showing a ton...lot of man on man battles won at the point of attack....PIT hosts MIN this week and CLE stays in the DIV for back to back weeks as they are going to BAL.

BAL 20, CIN 0...people have been throwing dirt on BAL...I didn't see any of this game, but from the highlights, it seems like the Bengals OL nor DL was not playing well...I'm on record thinking they are not going to like moving the kid that bombed out at RT over to LT. I'm not sure if the Ravens picked up this on tape or whatever, but they were all over Dalton's release of the ball...two picks were batted balls and Suggs was not really trying to pass rush when he batted one that was picked...something to note.

I've been feeling this is the last straw for Lewis in CIN and they finally pull the plug on him if they don't go to the playoffs and win...Getting shutout at home in your opener has to have his seat a little warmer today.
