I'm sure Zion wants to shoot threes at an effective average too, but that won't be necessary in his game. Again, you want to compare him with other NBA stars.

Well compare him to HOF Dennis Johnson who was a 5X all-star, 3X NBA Champion, 2X All-NBA, but he was 9X Best NBA Defensive Player, and how many PPG did he need? To do all that he averaged 14 PPG on 44% FGA and 17% 3PA.

Again you want to compare superstars to Zion but that's like saying Shaquille needs to work on his Free Throws because they'll foul him until he makes them. He can't be a potential superstar otherwise? C'mon now

Cmon man.

@Rex Racer said he needed to fix his shot because he isn't a good shooter. True story.

You asked why and posted his FG% at Duke, which is laughable.

I am not trying to compare him to anybody. You are doing that.

And Dennis Johnson? Are you joking here? A defensive minded PG who played in the 80s? I can guarantee you one thing. DJ would not be an allstar today without a revamped offensive game. Just not possible.

Zion can be a good player, maybe even a great one without a good jumpshot. But he will leave points on the court if he never develops that area of his game because I promise he won't shoot 80% in the paint in the NBA.

You arguing that he doesn't need to work on it because it isn't necessary shows a lack of understanding. I guarantee Zion himself will strongly disagree with your take here.

I've never said he doesn't need work on his outside shot, post moves, off the bounce, or even his dunks, don't put words in my mouth that I never stated. I've given several examples of the double standard you wanted to use in accessing his skills at the next level.

He shoots 68% from the field and I asked who shoots that in the NBA, no response.

The thing that has become apparent is in this discussion is that since he isn't a superstar in ALL facets of his game he can never be as good as he needs to be, which is hilarious. It was said he'd be a bust @Rex Racer , that's why I connected to this thread.

And DJ was a HOF who averaged 14 PPG, was a defensive specialist, but was one of the best players I've ever seen, that's why I gave his stats, because he wasn't a scorer/shooter, he just excelled in nearly every measurable other than that.

Again, show me every superstar who excelled in every facet of the game his rookie season, go ahead, I can wait.

@tance is a Kyrie Hater, and most likely a Duke hater too.

You must be a Maryland fan because that would explain your biased opinion of Zion, isn't that true?

Don't get me wrong. I really like the kid and I think that he will be a special player in the league. If a miracle happened and the Lakers were to somehow get the #1 pick and took him...I'd be beyond ecstatic.

At worst, I think that he will have a long career as a productive player. But he has a couple of things to work on to be as good as I think he's likely to be.

We all have stuff to work on, including Zion

Hey, hey, hey. If you're gonna mention the Kyrie Hater's don't leave me outta the conversation. I wasn't happy when the Celtics picked him up. And fuck dook.

I thought he never played enough games at Duke to be hated by a Chump Hill fan

Hey now, calm down! All I said (after the wise crack about him being an NBA bust) is that he needs some serious work on his shot because his release point is too low and too far forward.

As for the bold, Larry Bird, Tragic Johnson............ and maybe Tommy Heinsohn :dhd:

P.S. Zion isn't going to waltz into the NBA and terrorize the league at or near the rim like he does in college. Ain't happenin.

I'm calm, but Zion will be no bust.

I would have said Chamberlain, Kareem, or Earl the Pearl, probably before your time though, Bird and Magic were awesome

I'm 58 and I remember all of them, though I watched Lew Alcindor far more than the other two.

I'm 59 and I was just a kid when my Dad and I went to see Earl Monroe at the Winston-Salem Coliseum when he played for Winston Salem State, man he was awesome, and I sat underneath the goal on the baseline, remember it like it was yesterday

My biased opinion of Zion?

You realize that I think he is in the conversation for best NBA prospect since LeBron right?

And I have made it very clear in this thread that I think he will be great.

Zion will not shoot 68% from the field in the NBA. But if you want examples, here they are:

Gobert: 67%
Capella: 64%
McGee: 62.1%
Harrell: 61.6%

Notice it is all bigs shooting over 60% because of where their shots come from.

Zion attempted 2 3s per game and almost all the rest of his attempts were in the paint. I don't care who you are or what level you play, 74.7% made field goals on 2s is crazy impressive. But it does not indicate perimeter shooting skill which is all @Rex Racer was talking about and all I was talking about.

You are trying to make this about something that it isn't.

For the record, I am a UVA fan. My dislike of Kyrie has nothing to do with Duke. But I changed my signature to that when I was forced to don a Kyrie avatar from losing a bet in the '16 NBA Finals. And honestly I don't know how to change it again and don't particularly care enough to find out.

And again, I think Zion is the most impressive college player in the 1 and done era. Time will tell how it translates, but he has some stuff to work on including his shot.
