Montana because of what he did at ND or in the NFL? Wouldn't Tim Brown or even Teo rate as better at ND?
Just wondering.
Fair question. He was successful at ND but more famous in the NFL. Brown is worthy. Te'o isn't the best LB in ND history. I'd say Jaylon Smith and Bob Crable were better. That's great company to be compared to.

yeah, I get your point. But imo he was not only one of my favorites, he was also one of the best.
You were complaining about other people leaving him off their favorites, then went on to use the "who's better argument"

and all you guys doubting Ricky Williams? Damn, thinking you're just colored by his pot smoking, or anxiety disorder, etc.

I watched Earl (even saw him in high school, I was a kid who's two best friends' big brothers played for Austin Reagan-a perennial state champ contender/winner, and who went on to play at UT with Earl), Roosevelt Leaks, Butch Hadnot, Cedric Benson, Jamaal Charles, Priest Holmes, Eric Metcalf, all in person.

And other than Earl, Ricky was the best. He had the knack, the ability to get it done.

I left Peyton Manning off. He's probably considered the best qb Tennessee had, but there were many more players I enjoyed watching…..

okay, guess I did not get your point.

I didn't even see the favorite/best argument...I was just thinking my favorites.

I can see where Ricky may not be someone else's favorite. Don't understand why, but I know that's how some feel.

They were my favorites, and also mostly some of the best.

Best is subjective, at some point. Happy Feller, kicker on 1969 NC team, is one of my favorites, because I was a little kid and liked his name. Was he the best? Highly doubtful, but I don't know.

As for Ricky Williams, I just like the guy. He was a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Plus, he's unquestionably one of the best, so that's just a bonus I guess.

Forgot about him, he was a good one. I knew a lady (believe she played on the 'other' team, if ya know what I mean) who worked for the justice system in Texas...she had a huge picture of Childress in her office, like 30 x 40, and a few smaller mementos. She was a big fan. She was also big, mean and black as night and carried a gun. Thank goodness she liked me and was a friend.

Yeah, Ray was never flashy but was constant in college & in the NFL. He just went out and did his job.

Glad Ole Girl was on your good side.

did an aggy mention Quentin Coryatt?

Man I LOVED watching that guy lay wood to fools across the middle of the field......THAT was a great player. I can't believe he flamed out as a pro. Usually LBs and safeties are a sure bet in the NFL.

Whatever happened to Lofton? I enjoyed watching him play not even being a Tennessee fan. I remember he was diagnosed with cancer right before the draft but never heard anything after that

Yeah, just imagine what would happen to him today if he laid that hit on someone.

Brown was amazing in college, Crable I have no recollection of. Jaylon Smith might be the better athlete but Teo changed games and was just in the right spot at the right time numerous times in his career.

Career tackles Crable holds the school record and it isn't even close. Teo's last season was far and away his best. He also benefitted from one of the best DL that ND had since the early 90's.

And Smith did more with less, IMO. I don't know too many lbs who can cover Nelson Agholor, but he could, and beat him too.

Don't get me wrong Teos definitely top 5 all time as lbs at ND go. But I think Crable had the better overall ND career and Smith's athletic ability is other worldly.

I don't recall jaylon covering nelson but Agholor caught 12 passes for 120 yards and a TD against ND in 2014 Nelsons last year. Maybe everyone else couldn;t cover him.
