Good deal, the Yankees locked him up for prime years. Very good ball player. LF and CF is covered for the Yanks.

Was there another team out there who was willing to pay him that much or more? I don't think so. Seems a little steep for him but with the way money has been flying around the majors lately this is chump change

If he hit FA, yes. He would be a lead off hitter and CF for most teams, that has a lot of value.

Gardner's new contract has him making $13M a year, and his past 3 seasons (excluding 2012 when he played 16 games), his WAR averaged 5.2.

Shane Victorino by comparison has averaged a 4.7 WAR the past 3 seasons, and makes $13M a year.

Sounds pretty comparable....

Orioles would have been in the Market. Or at least, should have been. They would be Devoid of a lead off hitter.

Markakis and Hardy coming off the books. Id Take him for 13 M Per in this Market.

This is exactly why I want my son to play baseball instead of football. (now obviously the odds of any of our children playing pro ball is astronomical) But Gardner who is a great athlete and is just all around solid gets 13 mill a year.

Compare to the average nfl contract and add in the trauma and baseball is a no brainer.

I like this move. It's market value right now with how crazy money flies around MLB. The Yankees need more players like him. They play the game and do what they have to do. I'd rather a team of Gardner's than A-rod's. At least you would know they want to play the game and they would give it 100% all the time.

The Yankees officially announced today that they have signed the Pro Star Management client to a four-year extension with a club option for a fifth season. Gardner's new deal begins in the 2015 season and is reportedly worth $52MM. He receives a $2MM signing bonus and will earn $12MM in 2015, $13MM in 2016, $12MM in 2017 and $11MM in 2018. The 2019 club option is worth $12.5MM and contains a $2MM buyout.

LOL this is a terrible deal for the Yankees, great job by Gardner robbing them of 52M.

It is $50m for the 4 years 2015-2018 ($12.5, $13.5, $12.5, $11.5). They have a team option for 2019 or a $2m buy-out....

If Ellsbury is worth $21m, then Gardner is worth $12.5m, right? He had a 4.2 BR WAR last year...

I find some of the reaction to this deal comical, especially when you consider this is the team that committed $175 million to a player who has never stepped on an MLB regulation mound.

C'mon guys, what did you expect?

That the Yankees would pay market value?

:laugh3:
