I know that it is the GM's responsibility to put together a winning team, but it's difficult to give Z too much shit for the offseason he put together.

He landed Seth Smith who has been a lot more valuable at the plate than his .262/.325/.489 line would indicate. I'd be surprised if he doesn't have an OBP of at least .350 by the end of the season. Even though he strikes out at a fairly high rate, he's a hell of a lot more patient than almost our entire lineup put together. He actually looks like a professional at the plate to me.

Nelson Cruz has been hitting at a damn-near MVP level.

We didn't give up much for Happ and he has been a real solid #3 so far.

If you're going to criticize him for what's wrong, at least give him credit for what he did right. The Mariners have lost a lot of 1 run games, when you're losing games that close, it's not like you have a bad team. The Mariners have been a lot more competitive than their W/L record would indicate. Jack Z put together a team with a lot of talent on it, as evident by the fact that many had the Mariners as their AL WS representative. The things that have gone wrong were not predictable.

I understand the sentiment to want to replace Z, he has had his time and the Mariners once again have a losing record. Yet I do believe that he has done some good, and I feel like the Mariners could do significantly worse at GM than Z.

For me, this is the most demoralizing loss in years.
Especially when your top pitcher can't even get out of the fifth.

There goes the series AND the season. Face it, everyone, it's done.

Did you complain about Cano last year? Are you complaining about Cruz or Smith this year? If you think our success is based on WeAks or Rugg, then not much I can say. Hate Jack, what I see on the field is on Lloyd no matter how bad we think the players are. And again, all national media thought they were pretty good before season started.

Does Jack keep trying to get Jackson a stolen base? Does Jack advance runners on hits just to be thrown out by 10 feet? Does Jack teach a veteran outfielder to throw to the middle of the diamond with a runner on 1B allowing him to advance? Yes our players suck for the most part, but even sucky players improve with good coaching. Where is the improvement?

And if Lloyd is such a great manager, why did it take him almost a decade to get his 2nd job? Last years winning season was his first winning season as manager. He took a 69 win Pirate team and in 3 seasons got him to his high win total of 75 wins. Then 72, then 55 through 136 games and then fired. He is no wizard so let's get that straight.

1. Cano - no brainer. The org needed to make a point that they were committed to putting together a roster. And we paid more than he's worth on his best day so I'm not going to congratulate him too much. That's ownership finally showing a willingness to spend
2. Cruz - No brainer. And if he would have had the balls to make the same move last year (for less years and cheaper) we probably would have made the playoffs
3. Smith - good pick-up. Congrats to the blind squirrel.

How the hell does that even make up for all the stupid moves he's made? We can't draft or pick up a prospect at the plate to save our life and that's been the common theme since he's been here. He doesn't know what the fuck he's doing in that regard and this team couldn't win with Earl Weaver with this clown running the show.

For all the criticism of Rickie Weeks, he actually has been really good at hitting lefties: .278/.350/.472 in 36 ABs.

The reason his stats are so shitty is because for some god forsaken reason we sent him out there to hit righties too. In 36 ABs against righties he is hitting .083/.214/.083

The same applies to Justin Ruggiano:
vs righties: 32 AB .156/.289/.219
vs lefties: 32 AB .250/.333/.500

Weren't both these guys brought in to fucking hit lefties? There is no reason for either of them to be in the lineup when a RHP is out there. It's astonishing to me that these two have as many ABs against righties as lefties. I hope I'm missing something because some of the shit that McClendon does just doesn't make sense to me.

Good lord... We get a guy on 3rd with 1 out and can't drive him home with our #3-#5 hitters aboard...

I wonder if the praise plate discipline is ever mentioned with these guys. It's like they try to avoid walks like its the plague.

Don't worry. There's still 100+ games to go. It's going to be wonderful.

Finally plays Ruggiano, and then makes a moronic decision yet again.

Why?

I had never played armchair manager before this year, really. I'm starting to get really agitated.
