A. Game 7 of World Series. Your pitcher has a no-hitter through 8 innings. Pitch count is at 96. Opponents 2,3,4 batters are up next. You have a good closer. You have a 1-0 lead. Do you leave your starter in or yank him?
B. What if the pitch count is 112?
C. What if he's given up 4 hits all since the end of the 5th inning?

Without question, pull him. Closer ERA's are near invariably better than a starter his 3rd or 4th turn through an order. No time to mess around in game 7 as far as I am concerned. If the closer blows it, so be it.

Leave him in in all three scenarios. Pull him once he gets 2 on.

If your SP has a no hitter going, obviously he is your best pitcher and option on that particular day regardless of how good your closer is. Even if it's the 9th inning in game 7, I would leave him in there.

The fact he has a no-hitter, in game 7, is trivial. Game 7 trumps the factoid of a no-hitter. Pitch count in this situation is also trivial. More than one pitcher has blown out an arm in order to win a ring. That is what they are there for. Also, they have 5 months to rest the arm. Use it.

The only thing to consider is...

1) What does the catcher say? Does his stuff still have life? Is he hitting his spots?
2) What kind of confidence do you have in your bully? Do you just have a closer, or do you also have specialists? What are the splits for your bully individuals vs the starter vs the hitters coming up?

In Game 7, ego has no place. You pull your closer on the drop of a dime if it doesnt look like he has it. You put in your starter from 2 days ago to go 5 if he is your best option.

Good question. Gotta leave him in no matter what. The playoffs is all about getting hot at the right time
