I think schools should force kids to pay the last year if they pull out. In a way they are going against their scholarship. Now I know it wouldnt be a big difference because what is 1 year of school 35-70K a year depending on what school but at least it gives something for the player to think about. I dont know its just an idea. Might be a stupid idea but there should be a penalty for breach of scholarship or contract just like I think coaches should pay when they leave a school hanging. The university invested in you.

Getting the team into the bowl game rewards the school with millions of dollars. I think they have "paid" their school enough already.

Scholarships are one year deals

They don't owe the school squat

yes so if healthy and can play but doesnt its breach of scholarship and that kid owes the school for that year. Again this is just an idea. Maybe Im taking it too far but there should be a penalty for the kid and for the coach if they leave. Like no offense to some but dont act like these players dont get paid. Here is an example:

Tuition and fees at University of Notre Dame are $46,237 without financial aid. With room, board, and other fees combined, total cost of attendance is $62,461.
so after 4 years the school has invested 248K on that kid and gives that kid a platform to show his skills and have a shot to go to the NFL where that kid can get millions. We need to give these universities more credit. They arent perfect and the system isnt perfect but it isnt as bad as people think when you break it down.

that is very true. Look Im a ND fan i saw what happen to J. Smith but he knew how important ND and his team mates were and played. He was smart enough to take out insurance and yes he got hurt but he also got paid. Did he lose some money yes. He even said he doesnt regret it because he wanted to be out there with them.

I get the urge to compete. I can't say that Fournette or Mccaffrey or anyone that takes this route isn't competitive tho bc there is a lot at stake. Jaylon Smith played for his teammate, school, and fans but have any of his teammates given him money for what he lost, any gofundme pages started by ND fans, Notre Dame itself write him a check? His insurance policy paid at the max 5 million dollars. He potentially lost three times that amount in his very first NFL contract.

In a way they did write him a check. Paid his way to a ND degree. That is a Big Check. About 240K for 4 years.
1st contracts arent what they use to be. Its your 2nd contract where you get paid.

like I said it sucks what happen to him but overall he still got paid. He still never has to work again in his life if football ended. The best part he wanted to play in that game. Great character guy. This is a guy you want on your team.

Here is an example: Eli apple #10 pick(safe to say Smith would of been in the 7-10 range.) Contract 4 years 12 mill. 9 mill Guaranteed. Smith #34 pick: Contract 6.5 mill, 4.5 mill Guaranteed plus 3 mill in insurance. So that makes 7.5 mill Guaranteed.

So yes he lost money but he is ok.

So in a 4 year time frame the Fiesta Bowl potentially lost him 7 million dollars. That's why I can't get angry at someone who says they don't want to risk it

He lost 2.5 mill is how I look at it. Thats the only guaranteed money. He can make that up in his 2nd contract if he is good enough just like Eli Apple can get more if he is good enough.

A lot of them do just that. There's nothing on the line to win in that game......whereas his entire playing future is on the line if he gets injured.

Simply no point here for him, this is a fairly easy risk to reward business decision. YOUR enjoyment of a game is simply not HIS problem.
What if the entire LSU team felt like that?

U have a fair point. I just rather see a guy that is a team player on my team. U missing the game is letting your team mates, School and fans down and maybe u lose some draft stock(we dont know yet because this is new). Name a Top 10-15 player like J. Smith that is cost them. Not many. I could understand it if happen to a lot of 1st rd picks but it doesnt(talking about on bowl game). McCaffrey and Oklahoma player Charles Walker who some what start this whole thing sitting out makes no sense. These arent top 10 picks.

"Quitting on your teammates is hard to take as a coach," Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops told reporters after Tuesday's practice.

I agree with him.

Isn't Fournette on a one year scholarship this year? If so, shouldn't he honor that scholarship?

This is just stupid.

A superbowl is the highest title he can win. What's he going to win in some random bowl game? What is he giving up? N O T H I N G

So fucking stupid. I've actually never read something more stupid and I read lots of stupid stuff every single day. Of course this guy is making the right decision.

Its a new age. Kids arent as passion as they were back in the day or even recent time. Its just like how the NBA is soft now and friends want to play with friends instead of competing against the best to earn that championship. The new age players want the easy way out.(some not all)

Pathetic. McCaffrey and Fournette play like bad asses when on the field. Their field is an NFL one, not these lame ass bowl games.

Yeah I read your stupid thoughts earlier the thread. For some of these guys this will be their last competitive football game. And you want them to sit it out? So stupid.

Should the eagles sit out the rest of the NFL season, they have nothing to play for this season?
