The guy sucked anyway. All he did was fight with coaches and play poorly. LSU is better off.

Unless a player is hoping to improve their draft stock in the bowl game, there's no real reason to risk it in this playoff era.

Wow. Now here is one fan who didn't deserve the pleasure of watching Fournette play for LSU.
What are you talking about? All I said was this:

I said bye

and

I DID thank him for his time

and

I gave him some advice and a warning about the door he was walking out of

and

Let me add this: "Next man up."

Real question.

What "era" is/was it alright for players to improve their draft stock and not play in their college team's final game?

I can understand Fournette because he is a top 10 pick. After this past season not only is McCaffery being idiotic about sitting out his bowl game but leaving early. From being robbed of the Heisman a year ago to a what's that kid from Stanford's name this year.

Is anyone giving Buffalo a bunch of shit yet?

Calling Taylor a "franchise" QB is a stretch, but the point still stands.

Not really. Fournette and any other player are letting their team down, imo. They signed on to be there for their teammates for every game. Even a bowl game. Something tells me he wouldn't sit out the playoffs or a major bowl.

Based on the tweet, it looks like Taylor wasn't given a choice about not playing. Fournette has chosen not to play.

It's not about Taylor, it's about the team's decision.

The team is benching a clearly superior player to prevent an injury that would cost them millions. If you are OK with that but not OK with college players sitting to avoid injury, then you are a hypocrite.

I'm not okay with the team making that decision. However, it's 2 different things. In Taylor's case, it doesn't appear he was given a choice. Fournette had a choice.

Because it's 2 different things, it wouldn't be hypocritical if I was okay with the team doing it.

Now, if LSU's coaches said they were going to sit Fournette to prevent injury that could hurt his draft status and I wasn't okay with it, but okay with Taylor being sat down...THAT would be hypocritical.

Or, if Taylor had chosen to sit out and I was okay with it, but not with Fournette's decision, that would also be hypocritical.

A college scholly isn't cheap. If this becomes a trend in CFB that potential high picks are gonna sit out lesser bowls I think the NCAA should put a rule in that says any player that turns his back on his team & his school should have to repay the entire scholarship in full. Maybe a bit extreme but I don't like what Fournette or McCaffery have decided to do. And like you said, no way in hell would either of those players sit out if their trams were in a better bowl game.

Yeah, repaying the whole schollie does seem a bit extreme. I agree that if this starts to become a trend, something should be done though.

Those players were on the team all season and therefore part of the reason those teams are in lesser bowls.

It's just part of the risk when a school takes in a top talent. If we're going to make this strictly a business transaction, then the school should have to pay a lot more than a scholarship.

You didn't see players pulling this crap 10/20 years ago. And only a very small % of CFB players make it to the next level. If players are gonna accept a full ride they should fulfill their obligation to the school that gave them the scholly & finish out the season. It's only a so-called business transaction to the small amount of players talented enough to get to the NFL. They shouldn't be able to turn their backs on their teammates like that.

As the money has exploded, players have opened their eyes. How about these coaches that leave their teams? It's just business, I guess.

I don't like how coaches can just leave a program during a season. But coaches are paid employees of the university & aren't getting a fully paid scholly. I have nothing against kids leaving early for the NFL. I'd just like to see them fulfill their commitment, not quit on their team because they didn't get a good bowl bid.

I've seen the whole coaches argument as to a justification of players not playing, but I remember when Mike Price was leaving for Alabama during our Rose Bowl and I'd honestly never even thought he would coach in the Rose Bowl. If you take another job, your commitment is done, you are no longer paid by the school. Fournette nor McCaffrey have taken another job and are still getting paid essentially to go to school. It's like your company paying you to go to a conference in Vegas but you tell them you aren't going to actual conference you're just taking a free vacation, gambling and drinking on their dime.

Agree. They don't want to play in the bowl game, that should end their scholarship and if they want to continue in school, they can pay tuition like a regular student.
