If his team was in a playoff to compete for a national title my opinion would be different. He needs to play. But the Citrus Bowl is an exhibition game. Plain and simple

I agree.....this would be a much bigger deal if LSU was a top 4 team.

Good for him. He's already banged up, there's no need for him to play this game, just get ready for the combine. What is he supposed to prove playing in a glorified exhibition game?

He has been "hurt" for 2 years at LSU. Plays when he feels right.

I seriously love the dude, and think he is as solid as they come, but have to question his true competitiveness.

If you don't want to compete, the NFL will completely expose you. Down in, down out, you have to bring it in the league. You can't just show up when you want to unless you are Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson.

I understand where you're coming from but say he plays and gets hurt? He goes from being a 1st rounder to possibly a 3rd or 4th rounder and miss out on millions of dollars. It's a business decision.

Countless players have gotten hurt their senior season and in Bowl games to have it effect their draft stock.

Sometimes it's better to show intelligence rather than heart. The Citrus Bowl is pretty much all risk and no reward for him
What's the point of playing on a team? It's not about I, it's about the TEAM!

I get the move but can't say I approve or would do the same to the brothers I just fought with the whole year

Just look at Jaylon Smith last year. Guy was a lock top 5 pick and he got lucky to be picked up in the second round and may never play a down in the NFL. That is huge. And for what? A Fiesta bowl win so Notre Dame could make it a little higher in the AP poll? I'm sure Fournette understands people will question his competitiveness and drive with this decision but he can avoid the risk of a major injury, go get ready for the combine and look towards his future.

Those brothers aren't going to provide for your family should you get hurt and potentially lose millions even tens of millions of dollars. Its a tough decision and its a shitty way to look at a sport we love, but this is a smart move by Fournette. Like I said earlier, if LSU was in the playoffs, Fournette needs to play, that is when it becomes more about the team. Not when its just to get a better ranking in a meaningless Top 25

I agree. It would be one thing if he said he were sitting out the SEC tite game and whatever playoffs/Bowl game they got. But, he isn't. I understand the competitive argument and not giving up on your team-mates but people are over-reacting. And most of his team-mates won't ever see an NFL field so they can't relate.

True.

I still cringe when I think about Marcus Lattimore. Not a bowl game, but that dude gave his shit every Saturday for South Carolina. Maybe the saddest sports injury I've ever witnessed live.

I get the argument but call it what it is: abandoning his teammates for money

Fournette is far from being the clear #1 RB.

I tend to agree here. Either he was holding back or he was injured more than was let on. Either way he is either selfish or damaged.

I think he would have been a good pro but that injury robbed him of his career.
