In truth Berube isn't really the problem, the question is whether or not he can ever be part of the solution. (Insert name of best coach ever here) couldn't win regularly with this D.

This is true nobody can win with this defense. We need changes everywhere except line 1.

My only untouchables would be Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds and Couturier. Everyone else including D's and G's could go if needed.

On a somewhat related venting note L Schenn and Grossmann, our supposed defensive defensemen, have been absolutely terrible on the PK and are the primary reasons why this team has the worst PK in the league.

One more gripe before I start my new years resolution of less bitching: I'm sick of people complaining about the shootout. While the shootout itself isn't great, the overall games are better compared to the old, boring "play for the tie" games we used to see. Fucking hell if I want to go back to watching THAT crap.

End bitching. Have a happy and safe New Year everyone!

IDK. That fourth line has been playing pretty darn good the last month.

He's gunna stay in Detroit I think. I'd be shocked if he leaves.

I agree with this - but the longer it goes, the more speculation there will be, obviously

I like Berube but I don't like Berube . I think If we had the horses he would look a lot better but since we don't his game plan is not the best. I always felt like he doesn't know the right time to use a timeout and should show more fire on the bench. With that said if he goes its fine if he stays we need better players and soon.

If we had Scotty Bowman (1,244 wins), Al Arbour (782) or Joe Quenneville (718) (the 3 most winning coaches in NHL history), this group would not win. :doh:You cannot win in this league with a 2nd pairing and

(2) 3rd pairing defensemen. The top (and I use the term very loosely) are back next year with cap hits of $5.6, 5.0, 4.5, 3.6 and 3.5. :gaah::bawling: Maybe Couburn gets moved at the trade deadline but that would be a super high price for a declining 3rd pairing guy with a $4.5 hit for next year. Believe it or nor Grossmann is the most attractive as he is at least a 2nd pairing guy with a cap hit (I believe (damn Capgeek!)) of $3.6 for 2 more years. He is one guy I think they should keep. No system or coach will make these guys better. Time to suck (it up) for 2 more years when we have some money and room to bring up Ghost, Hagg and Morin.

I don't know how we fell so far so fast.

I hope the kids come up next season I need something exciting to watch.

I agree with you there. If I'm going to be forced to watch bad hockey, I'd at least like it to include young players going through the pains of development rather than what is mostly just a bunch of overpaid stiffs with little hope of improvement.

With 5 over paid stiffs under contract on defense for next year, we have 1 spot open. I am going to go out on a limb and call Morin to be the 1 to make it out of camp next year. We will hear the BS that Ghost and Hagg need more seasoning (aka, we have too many high priced stiffs on defense and don't have room for more than 1 young guy on D).

I'd be shocked (and disappointed) if Macdonald, Coburn, and LSchenn are all on the team next year. They have to be able to unload at least one of those guys.

Come the TD I bet there will be a market for at least L Schenn and Coburn. SOmebody making a run may want to add more depth on the D. Just my opinion.

agreed. the only scary part is, and what will probably drive the return down some from typical TD sales, is the fact that those guys all have years left on their contract. but as long as they get something in return, and don't have to sweeten the pot, I think moving those guys will be good.

my hope for returns would be:

Coburn - 2nd round pick + late round pick
Macdonald - 3rd round pick
LSchenn - 4th round pick

That might be undervaluing or overvaluing those guys, unfortunately this isn't my job :). but I think I would be satisfied with returns along those lines. Moving those contracts out and adding picks would be fantastic.
