Urena looks like the best bet to be a long guy to begin the year. Another pretty good outing today.

Jonathen Hernandez looks like he's pitched his way off the team

From Evan Grabt:

Here are three VERY IMPORTANT pitching-related observations:

Best Grant usage: The two best relief performances this spring may be Grant Anderson and Marc Church. Both have minor league options, which works against them if the Rangers favor roster protection over spring performance in constructing the opening day roster.

Anderson worked a scoreless inning on Sunday and has pitched 6.1 scoreless innings in “A” games this spring. He’s allowed only four baserunners. He allowed two two-out singles on Sunday, in a testy 21-pitch inning. The last at-bat of the inning, though, was an example of why the spring numbers are not smoke and mirrors. He fell behind lefty Matt Mervis 2-0, then battled his way back into the count before getting him to fly out to left.

After an impressive debut last year, the side-arming Anderson struggled against lefties. They hit .326 with a 1.048 OPS against him.

“He needed to work different quadrants against lefties,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “I think he’s become more effective against them. That’s not what he’s here for; he’s here to be a multi-inning guy, but you’ve still got to get through them.”

Also from Evan Grant:

Best case for an IL stint: Bochy had already indicated the reliever Jonathan Hernández, coming back from a lat injury last year, would not be ready for the start of the season. Hernández underscored that with a rough outing Sunday in his third “A” game outing of the spring.

After getting the first out of the sixth, he walked Cody Bellinger, failed to hold him, then fumbled a dribbler up the line for an error. It got worse.

Jake Slaughter clobbered a pitch for a three-run homer and Michael Busch lined a ball deep to left on which Evan Carter crashed into the wall. Carter was OK; Hernandez is not.

“This is still early for him,” Bochy said. “He’s just not quite ready. That’s obvious. He’s trying to find his way out there.”

Yes, to see which one they keep...

Right now it seems like a tossup but both have things working against them like Walsh being LHed and lots of Ks, and Foscue only being an IFer and no MLB experience...

I still think we could see a trade here in the next few days.

The Rangers are 5th in the MLB.com power rankings. They are topped by the Braves, Dodgers, Orioles and Phillies.

The thing that helps Foscue is he offsets so many bangers in the lineup and we need a RHB off bench or to platoon

The guy who wrote the article still has questions about Carter and Langford, the bullpen, and the rotation. I think by the end of April those questions will be retired, unless there are some key injuries.
