Listening to a sports radio station. They said that if the Rangers sign Ohtani , it may entice Yamamoto to sign with the Rangers also.

That would be great, but it could force some trades to trim some salary and to acquire relievers.

I guess I’m in the minority because neither option you and saddles list stirs any sense of confidence in me. In both I see a badly constructed bullpen that will do no better than last year’s regular season fubar mess
You haven't really stated a list, only Hader and 3-4 relievers

Hader, another serious guy for the 7th or 8th, and other than that other internal options should suffice which includes Leclerc and Sborz, i wouldn't hate bringing in 3 serious bullpen, counting Hader,

i think he and Monty should be priorities 1 - 5

We are only a week away from the Winter Meetings. Lots of folks think there will be no major signings until after Ohtani signs. I wonder if he is going to visit in person in a few places before signing. I kind of wish some team would step up and sign him so we can get the rest of the signings underway.

Once again, there hasn't been a single rumor hinting that the Rangers have any interest in Matt Moore. I wonder if something was said between the two sides a year ago that led to some ill feelings.

Other than a rumor about Montgomery haven’t heard any real rumors involving the Rangers

I read the same type thing about Hader, Ohtani, and Yamamoto as I read about Montgomery, as far as the Rangers being interested.

Sonny Gray's contract with the Cardinals will be 3 years and $75 million.

Okay what was your meaning
I meant it seems odd that with the connection we had with Moore and the good years he has put up since becoming a reliever, that like last year, there seems to be no interest from the Rangers in signing him, despite our overall bad bullpen. It makes me wonder if there are some bad feelings between the two sides.

The Rangers could definitely use him.

There was a time when the Rangers were pretty open on whom we were interested in from the top to the bottom of the available free agents. Now we’re being more coy in who knows whom we’re interested in

Well, the four I mentioned is no secret. Last year we knew they were interested in Perez.

Who knows though. Most of what we have read about those four may be more speculation than true leaks from sources.

I know last year Moore seemed like a perfect fit and he does this year as well, and yet there hasn't been a rumor or even speculation in the local media.

Of course, the Rangers, like I mentioned before, may not see a need for Moore or any other reliever, besides a closer.

Imanaga, who turned 30 in September, just wrapped up a second straight season with a sub-3.00 ERA and his third in the past five seasons. He tossed 148 innings of 2.80 ERA ball for the BayStars in 2023, punching out 29.5% of his opponents against a sensational 3.8% walk rate. Since 2019, he’s posted a collective 2.79 earned run average, 26.2% strikeout rate and 5.9% walk rate. A 2022 no-hitter headlines that five-year run of excellence.

While he may not bet the unusually young power arm that his countryman Yamamoto is, Imanaga is nonetheless viewed as a potential mid-rotation starter in MLB. MLBTR Back in September, MLBTR contributor Dai Takegami Podziewski noted that he’d added some life to his fastball and was sitting in the 92-93 mph range. He also has a splitter, curveball and cutter/slider, as examined in Brandon Tew’s breakdown of that 2022 no-hitter over at Sports Info Solutions

Any team that agrees to sign Imanaga will also be agreeing to pay a posting/release fee to the BayStars — the size of which is dependent on the size of Imanaga’s contract. In addition to the guaranteed money owed to the pitcher himself, his new team will need to pay a release fee equal to 20% of the contract’s first $25MM, plus 17.5% of the next $25MM and 15% of any dollars thereafter. MLBTR predicted a five-year, $85MM contract for the lefty, which would come with a $13.875MM release fee owed to the BayStars on top of the contract itself. Future club/player options and earnings unlocked via incentives/bonuses are also subject to that system (and, in this hypothetical instance, would come with a 15% fee owed to the Yokohama club).
