Don't understand the Blue Jackets trade for Clarkson. Seems like a loser to me at that cap hit, though I don't think they are in trouble with the cap or anything.

As a hockey move, it was terrible. But ownership figures if they were paying 5.5m per season, they needed a body on the ice. They just don't have the pockets to pay a guy to not play.

The Wisniewski trade is the one that hurts. Clarkson... meh. He's bad, but he's a nice guy. Bourque is a lazy piece of shit and the other kid is an AHL player coming into an already crowded group of youngins. So they essentially picked up a 2nd round pick for Wiz and a third. Turrible. Just turrible.

its clear cap circumvention that really is a loop hole that needs to be closed. since they did it on long term contracts they should do it for this as well and penalize both teams

I was waiting for Horton to get a job with the NHL.

Better yet, kill the cap. It's antiquated, don't need it anymore.

Fucking Rangers fans...

Minnesota obviously hit the jackpot with Dubnyk: Bergenheim & Stwart? - Only time will tell.

It's a good amount of rentals for a team I don't see coming out of the West, but you can't expect a playoff team to think like that. Bergenheim is a really solid pick up, Stewart and Leopold? Meh.

I think you may end up liking William Karlsson. Nice skill and a smart player by all accounts. I think he'll wind up a 2nd-3rd line tweener.

Rene Bourque, at this stage, is a fucking head scratcher though. He has the tools but his "give-a-shit-meter" is trending downwards and I wouldn't want him around some good young players like the BJs have. A contender with strong leadership should have taken a shot with him, IMO. In fact maybe Columbus thought they could flip him and it fell through. Only thing that makes sense to me.

First trade between the Flames and Canucks since March 5th, 1991.

Dana Murzyn to the Canucks for Ron Stern and Kevan Guy

Wanted cole but I like thaT the Wild added depth. Love having a Minny team that is constantly trying to win and make moves.

Just don't know Stewart will fit yet. 4th line is rolling as is and Schroeder on the 3rd line has been a big success.

Bruins = losers.

They could if playing to potential be a awesome 8 seed but Chia was too scared to trade away deadbeats like Lucic and Chara. I know that's harsh but that is how I see it.

Chara's gonna be hard to move. I mean, that's one of those deals you sign in a guy's prime knowing that the tail end of it won't be worth it...but it got the B's a Cup. In a weird way I think it'd be better for Boston to miss the playoffs, they'd probably clean out the FO and fire Julien. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Shero in Beantown next year.

Pretty good chance that Shero is the GM of Ottawa next year, IMO.

Wait... did you just call Chara a DEADBEAT???

The guy has done it all for his team and his community going back to his Ottawa days. :L

Forgot about that opening. Regardless, I highly doubt the man is a free agent long. Although I think firing him was the right call in Pittsburgh, he's still pretty good at his job. Just had made a few too many trades. The "all in" year really put the team in a tight spot (although I credit him for not moving the big prospects), just some bad acquisitions in Morrow, Murray, etc. Iginla wasn't a bad pick up, but probably wasn't really needed on that team...certainly not with a coach that didn't use him right.

EDIT: Reasoning on BOS thing is based on him being a NE guy.

Not on the deadline but Toronto did a great job with the Nashville and Clarkson trade. I am sad that Kessel/Phaneuf weren't moved but that has more to do so with me wanting to see Toronto melt.

Really happy as a Flyers fan. I've been calling to trade Coburn for a 1st for a while.

Liked the work by the Jets. Pulling for them if the Flyers don't make.

Sather better pray to God that the Rangers win a Cup before St. Louis is gone.

The Flyers made out quite well with the Coburn deal. I didn't see a 1st coming for him.

Coburn's a UFA after this year, right? Because I'm still confused by that deal from TBL's standpoint. Amazing variance in prices today when you compare that deal to Petry's or even Zidlicky (although Lou whined that he had better offers, but Zidlicky had the right to turn them down...you gave him the NTC man).

Biggest Winner Buffalo- any guesses which Jersey number Connor McDavid will wear.

Also Yotes they restocked pretty nicely and if they draft well should be a force in about 3 years.

Losers- Boston. I don't think they will be able to hang onto that last playoff spot.

St. Louis. already a good team but added an injured defenseman and Olli Jokein it will be tough to catch the Preds and didn't get anything in the way of players with playoff success and that is what they need.

He still has a year left after this year
