So is a baseball! But Ohtani set the bar for Soto. So the argument, at its core, is circular.

I am not a scout. But looking just at BBRef, he looks BETTER than Burnes. They are the same age, and Atlanta is a more offensive home park for him to put up BETTER numbers.Max Fried to your liking?
You failed geometry, didn’t you?So is a baseball!
Confusing with all of the deferred money Ohtani took. Soto has no deferred money. Needless to say, Ohtani probably tops what he got last year with ease.Probably more considering what Soto got
No clue....him, Burnes, Flaherty...they need a front line guy IMOI am not a scout. But looking just at BBRef, he looks BETTER than Burnes. They are the same age, and Atlanta is a more offensive home park for him to put up BETTER numbers.
He is a QO as well?
I'm just 2 dimensional!You failed geometry, didn’t you?
A baseball is spherical, not circular…
Giving yourself credit for that extra one, huh?I'm just 2 dimensional!
Yes, OPS+ adjusts for park.Doesn’t OPS+ take into account your home field splits? I genuinely don’t know
It's amazing to me how many people online either never took Econ 101 or slept through it.By definition they get what the market will deliver. Not overpays, the market rate for those players is what they get.
Don't know if folks have read Underworld by Don Delillo. The entire first chapter is a fictional recounting of The Shot Heard Round The World, and the rest of the book follows where the ball ends up. He draws a nice parallel between the size of a baseball and a nuclear core.So is a baseball!
Heard on the radio today, can’t remember who it was, that Fried is a ground ball pitcher. Maybe a good fit for the CoveI am not a scout. But looking just at BBRef, he looks BETTER than Burnes. They are the same age, and Atlanta is a more offensive home park for him to put up BETTER numbers.

Depends upon which stat you're considering. Look at IP. Durability is a thing. I keep reading how Buster wants to not tax the bullpen like we did last year. Another horse alongside Spider would really help.I am not a scout. But looking just at BBRef, he looks BETTER than Burnes. Read it, loved it, and that opening part is my favorite part of the bookDon't know if folks have read Underworld by Don Delillo. Anyway, great author, fun read.
the simple part is Ohtani is only a 10 year deal where the Soto deal is 15 years.Confusing with all of the deferred money Ohtani took. Soto has no deferred money. Needless to say, Ohtani probably tops what he got last year with ease.
By definition they get what the market will deliver. Not overpays, the market rate for those players is what they get.
Ohtani is NOT an overpay, though. They make the money back on him with merchandise, ticket sales and fan interest in Japan alone. He’s a unique animal.
Agree.I'm not saying Ohtani was. I was saying everyone after him will be based on his contract
Agree.
like Steph, he brings sooooo much more to the table than just baseball. He is transcendent, transformational. And he is a huge corporation unto himself.
I am not super familiar with the Mets lineup, but I don’t know that Soto is at the Bonds level. Today, only Ohtania and maybe Judge are at THAT level. But both of them have murderer’s rows surrounding them.Soto isn't a two way player and his fielding isn't great so regardless of what "the market" is I still say it's an overpay for what he can give to a team. Everyone in the Mets line-up now much perform or he will get the Barry Bonds treatment and just walked every time he's at the dish
