Giants next year:

That's 88M...plenty of room for Ohtani. They will be in the discussions.

Doyers next year:

Freeman 25
Betts 25
Taylor 13

...and that's kinda it. Heyward, Kershaw, Urias, Muncy, Thor, Martinez are all FA

Buehler will get a raise from 8, Will Smith a raise from 5

They're getting Ohtani.
And bring back a lot of their own players....

Judge -- 40
Cole -- 36
Stanton -- 32
Rodon -- 23
Donaldson --21 (16M club option 24)
Rizzo -- 17
LeMahieu -- 15
Severino -- 15 (club option 24)
-----------------
$199M for 8 players.

Now you're going to add $50M for Ohtani??

Can't see it.
Rodon goes to $27m next year(and gets that much for 4 more years after that. Donaldson will obviously be gone. Severino’s $15m option might not be picked up given the way he’s pitched. Normally that would be a slam dunk, but his 7+ ERA is bizarre. Torres will make something like $12-15m next year. They also probably want to keep Harrison Bader. Ohtani might not be in the cards. And, as others have said, the Dodgers figure to open the vault for him.

Have the Giants ever shown a willingness to give out a blockbuster deal like that, though? We’re talking 10yr/$500m for Ohtani(or something like that). The biggest deal I can recall the Giants giving out was Barry Zito. I’m sure there are other examples, but how many times have the Giants gone over 5 years or $100m for a FA?

Edit: Just remembered Cueto…

They've offered way more than that just a few months ago, Correa was ready to go even.

Sort of. As soon as they had him signed, they got buyer’s remorse. I’m talking about actual REAL contracts that were signed here.

You were wrong, it's not a big deal.

Ohtani and Trout are what keeps the Angels' ticket sales up. I really don't think that Ohtani will be traded (but also wouldn't be surprised that he is a Dodger next year).
And Trout is even less likely to get dealt. He's an icon in Orange County. The Angels would face huge backlash by shipping him off. Besides, it is pretty hard to trade a player while they are on the IL.

I can see that.

He already lives in LA, most likely, and I'm assuming there is a pretty decent sized Japanese community there too.
Although I don't know how much that plays into it for Japanese players, or players from any other country that come here to play.
Is that really a factor? SF has one too I'm sure.

This is my real question about the The City: Is it as big a shit hole as I'm hearing ?
Last time I was there it was, to me, a virtual paradise. I've had a few friends and acquaintances visit in the last few years and they all seem to agree that it was "gross and disgusting" due to the rampant homelessness and drug abuse.

IF that's true, I hope it's not, could that be a factor? is that why we couldn't sign Harper, Judge, etc etc ?

It would be a real shame that an intangible* such as that is the reason we can't land anyone major.

*Intangible as in the team/management can't do anything to effect real change.

yeah, i meant in the offseason. If they trade ohtani or let him walk, they might as well just do a full blown rebuild

(I didnt catch that this was the Giants board and you were only talking them trading for Ohtani)

No problem. Its still baseball, so it works.

Still don't see the Angels trading Trout at any point. Maybe they'll dfa him in the last year of his contract, when he's not hitting much any more, but as long as he puts butts in the seats, he is going nowhere.
