fwiw, Torres got a reputational penalty in the first period.
went to finish his check, even missed the guy, but the boards rattled too loudly, so he got 2 min for roughing.

i didn't know behind the net was a 'hit zone'.. so i take back my thoughts about a suspension.. should still be a penalty though, charging isn't just only for leaving your feet.. isn't it also taking more than like 2 strides towards a player with intent to hit?

they normally don't call it precisely on 2 strides, but torres definitely 'wound up' for that one, which i would call charging

definitely wasn't interference.

i hate reputation calls.. they happen way too often too

the nhl is going to wrong direction in trying to police hits that cause injury.. calling penalties, suspending people, etc. doesn't get the message across like having someone beat your face in for taking liberties

I think so. maybe charging (though he didn't leave his feet).
what's more interesting, is that there was virtually no response by the Hawks..... again.

yeah this was surprising. I saw the Hawks tried to engage the canucks in some silly crap during the game but the Canucks were not biting much. certainly a very very strange team this year.

I am eager to see what comes of this. I am really ticked by this... They are destroying this league. Fuck the children watching this sport, this is an extreme sport, there are hits involved, stop trying to make this some Disney league.

i posted this in another thread but it applies here

when your team tries to engage in a scrum at the end of a game and one of your players (Ben Smith) gets put in a headlock by a sedin brother ... you clearly have no team toughness

I was thinking that this decision (if Kypreos i right) could lay the groundwork for a rough-and-tumble game 4, but the Hawks have lost most if not all of their grit.

also interesting, it wasn't that his that finally made Seabrook leave the bench, it was the next shift out where Torres plowed him again. (also no response from the hawks)

---------> so YES, Torres is making an impact on the series. So is Edler for destroying Kane early in game 2.

why does he have to? as mentioned a thousand times, you are allowed to hit a guy with the puck.
have you seen any of this series? these guys have been crushing each other at any opportunity.
that's playoffs. it's a fucking war. good for torres.

did the other team score because of the hit on the powerplay yes or no....i am saying if you have a target on your back why would you put your team at risk.........

I am hoping the media, the teams, and the fans can move past this. This is creating much more fuss than it deserves. I would understand the uproar if Seabrook was hurt on the play, but come on. Amend rule 48 if you have to, whatever, just get it done and move on. The focus needs to go back to the rest of the players and why Chicago has a 3-0 deficit.

yes they did.
the hit also further deflated the Hawks physically, and that is a HUGE part of this series.
hawks are relying on about 5 guys to carry the load in the series (Seabrook one of them).
Canucks are crushing those guys. The hit count for the Canucks is at about 130 after three games.
another effect of pushing these guys around in the first two games has been to put a total waste of space John Scott in the line-up... on a depth challenged team as it is. The Torres hit could help to keep Scott in the line-up, which is another plus for the canucks.

you can argue risk /reward, but can't ignore that there WAS a palpable reward out of it.
the risk, was the there could be a penalty called... torres thought the hit was clean (ie. not even worth the 2 minute penalty that they scored on). i tend to agree. he hit a guy. not from behind, not with an elbow, not with his stick. It was a shoulder check on a player who had the puck.
Seabrook has to know to keep his damned head up. He HAD the puck.
the rewards have been outlined above.

whether there is a suspension or not, who the hell knows.
I wouldn't change was Torres did.

resume the war.

I'm ready to move on, but let me just throw this last little item out there...Colie screwed up on the Torres suspension on Eberle (i.e. too severe a suspension) and is making amends.

That's it, I'm done.

i will now drop the mother of all tin foil hat rumours that the local media has been throwing around at each other ... the length of Torres first suspension was a screw you punishment to vancouver because certain people at league offices question the canucks use of the long term injury reserve list this season (ie edler was resting)

lol and booyah

It was extremely convenient the injuries the Canucks had this year when it comes to getting under the cap.

lol
