I say you put him in and hope the Hawks try to go after him.

im torn. he is getting rep penalties now and that is RISKY. but would like the hawks to have another distraction. would love John Scott back in the game. Like Simpson said on CBC it was like the PP was actually a 4 on 4 with him on it.

It was extremely convenient the injuries the Canucks had this year when it comes to getting under the cap.

whats this Salo is ready to come back ... and Edler needs back surgery?

he has definitely recovered well from back surgery, no?

maybe it was 24/7 in the hyperbaric chamber

didnt he crunch his own teammate at the blue line as they were trying to gain the zone on that pp?

yes they did.
the hit also further deflated the Hawks physically, and that is a HUGE part of this series.
hawks are relying on about 5 guys to carry the load in the series (Seabrook one of them).
Canucks are crushing those guys. The hit count for the Canucks is at about 130 after three games.
another effect of pushing these guys around in the first two games has been to put a total waste of space John Scott in the line-up... on a depth challenged team as it is. The Torres hit could help to keep Scott in the line-up, which is another plus for the canucks.

you can argue risk /reward, but can't ignore that there WAS a palpable reward out of it.
the risk, was the there could be a penalty called... torres thought the hit was clean (ie. not even worth the 2 minute penalty that they scored on). i tend to agree. he hit a guy. not from behind, not with an elbow, not with his stick. It was a shoulder check on a player who had the puck.
Seabrook has to know to keep his damned head up. He HAD the puck.
the rewards have been outlined above.

whether there is a suspension or not, who the hell knows.
I wouldn't change was Torres did.

resume the war.

i love the killing out there, again i am looking at it as a nuks side of it thats all...if that was game 7 stanley cup and he did that and caused the team to lose..would everyone feel the same way...or whould you guys want his head.....time and place for it playoffs you need to use your head....if he knows he is being watched, then he needs approch his game different....i know he can score he had a hat trick this year...

I think taking him out of the line-up sends the wrong message.
you don't apologize or admit a mistake before game 4, you step on their fucking necks.

AV is bitchslapping Coach Q on all departments right now... Taking Torres out is like Q won one of the little battles.
also, if Torres throws ANY sort of decent hit early in game 4, Q's head might just explode.

Maybe the Hawks should try Williard Scott in place of John Scott for game 4. He probably skates as well as John and he's a big boy to screen Bobby Lou.

I think my biggest problem with hockey is that if Seabrook stays on the ice after the play and milks the call Torres gets 5 and a game.

possible... might have been about shortening the bench, too.
Burrows post game comments mentioned 'the ability to roll three lines'. I thought that was a bit odd.

Oreskovich didn't see ice-time in that approximate time either.
Lapierre got 2 shifts in that stretch - including 20 seconds in the last 7 min.

imo ... av wanted responsible guys on the ice to protect that lead ... its telling that he didnt include Torres

Thats the pussification of hockey as Milbury puts it. NHLers are becoming Footballers. Diving and pulling calls, it's a fucking joke. Seabrook, fortunately isn't a fag like that. But a call should be the same regardless of outcome. If a player gets injured, or even seriously injured, on a legal hit then oh well that is the nature of the game and hope you get well soon.

CBC talked about this. They referred back to 2009 playoffs (first time we faced them) and we were up 4-3 in the 3rd period of game 6 and the collapse began. they though AV made mistakes putting 4th line guys out there like Johnson and Wellwood etc... They think hes learned and that was a result. i agree with that

Dreger

btw Seabrook was asked if he knew the rules were different for behind the net hits and he said it was news to him

maybe he shouldnt have slept through the NHL produced rules video that was shown to him (and all other players) back at the start of the season

NHL chief of supplemental discipline Colin Campbell does not feel Raffi Torres' hit on Chicago defenceman Brent Seabrook violated Rule 48 and therefore, Torres will not be suspended.

Torres, in his first game back from serving a four-game suspension for delivering an elbow to the head of Edmonton Oilers rookie Jordan Eberle, flattened Seabrook with a shoulder to the head hit behind the Blackhawks' net and in an area often referred to as, "Death Valley."

It's called "Death Valley" by some because - for an unsuspecting defenceman or puck carrying forward hoping to make a play while cutting around the net - they can be vulnerable to the attacking player who's approaching at full speed.

In this case, Seabrook was vulnerable and as video replay clearly shows, Torres made no attempt to play the puck and focused on what he understands his job to be - separating player from puck by administering a thunderous body check.

An important distinction for the NHL is the fact the puck was in the area of the hit last night and Torres stopped skating near the faceoff circle and cruised in before landing the hit.

Not long ago this hit would have been celebrated (highlight of the night material), but not any more. Instead, player safety has become the focus, so all hits viewed too violent or that seemingly fall within the boundaries of Rule 48 are rightly questioned.

Torres, among other NHL players, seem confused between what is right and wrong by today's standards. But based on the results of TSN's flash poll conducted this morning, participating general managers view of what's a suspendable offence may be off the mark as well.

GMs were asked to categorize the Torres hit as good or bad (bad being suspendable).

The results may continue to trickle in as the day unfolds, but at this point, eight of the nine NHL general managers who have responded soundly favour suspension, four are on scouting missions around the hockey world and didn't see the hit, while one GM wouldn't offer an opinion, but says he's comfortable with how supplemental discipline is applied in all cases.

Rule 48, as one NHL general manager points out, now puts the onus on the hitter.

Seabrook never gained control of the puck and absolutely had no clue he was in danger, while Torres made no attempt whatsoever to play the puck as he was bearing down.

Multiple GMs want this type of hit and the danger it brings removed from the game, but until a rule is instituted that outlaws all shoulder to the head hits, then the Torres hit is deemed acceptable.

Rule 48 does provide a hitting area and recognizes there is a responsibility for players to always have their head up. A great example of this is illustrated in a game between the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 28 of last season - where Sens forward Chris Neil leveled Penguins defenceman Mark Eaton deep in the Penguins' zone.

And you can check out that video right here.

Neil was not penalized for the hit as Eaton was carrying the puck and needed to be aware of his environment. It appeared to be a devastating collision, but it did not meet the criteria for supplemental discipline.

Both hits will likely be brought up for discussion at future NHL general managers meetings and perhaps used by supportive GMs as further evidence the league will have to do more to protect the head and players from head injuries.

I do find it funny that certain people/broadcasters/whomever think that a shoulder is less of a threat to a players health than an elbow. Obviously, by the rules an elbow is more troublesome, but taking either to the head is bad for you.
