When NHL GMs created Rule 48, they allowed area behind net is "hitting area" and players need to be more aware than, say, in neutral zone..

I didnt know about this rule. interesting. why the penalty then? just a bad call? the puck was right there

Honestly, I understand why they are buckling down on these hits... But I truly don't believe that hit was that bad. If what puckhead said was true word for word then that hit seemed pretty legit to me.

edit: I only saw the replay once... The puck looked pretty damn close to me for that to be interference. That call was a joke.

problem is seabrook didnt even play the puck yet..and torres had a chance to play the puck and didnt....he only wanted to do one thing not help his team score but to injure another player..

I didnt know that... I'll take a look at the replay again later. If thats true and he opted for the big hit over the puck, then that is just stupid. Did he really aim for the head though, looked like a real solid shoulder to shoulder. Again, I only saw the hit once.

the puck was on Seabrooks blade ... last time i checked you can still throw a hit to get the puck away from a player possessing it

I think Bettman made that illegal. I think he also made it illegal to win a playoff series unless your blowing him as well. :sly:

I don't really see a whole lot wrong with that hit, honestly. It looked shoulder to chest, he stayed on his feet, and the puck was right next to Seabrook's stick if not right on it at the point of contact. I could see a 2-minute charging call for taking an extra step or something, but I don't think that should be suspendable.

blind side hit, plenty of chance to play the puck......

In March of 2010, a DVD went to players, coaches, and general managers saying exactly that, that there was far more latitude given on hits behind the net on unsuspecting players. In other words, as one NHL GM told me tonight, a hit behind the net is viewed more like a north-south hit than an east-west neutral zone hit.

Who he is and how he plays are irrelevant. According to Rule 48, this was technically a legal hit, regardless of opportunity to play the puck. Whether or not we want to see guys take the high road, and I prefer that as well, you cannot punish a guy for not breaking the rules, just based on who he is. That sets a really bad precedent.
