Why do Texas fans act like the Longhorn network is great?

3rd tier programming is for the hard core (borderline zealot) fan.
There is nothing whatsoever on todays SEC Network that would appeal to most casual fans.
There is nothing whatsoever on todays LHN that would appeal to most casual fans.

That is why it is THIRD FREAKING TIER.
It is all the stuff that the primary Networks and largest revenue pieces don't want to buy.
Leftovers repackaged and sold to maximize additional revenues is all that these Networks are in essence.

The SEC Network is no different. It will replay the same show about 6 times (SEC Now).....add in some women's sports....maybe a men's basketball tape delay.

Heck, even ESPN cannot fill a day. They will replay sportscenter three times, NFL live a few times, as filler.

This is not some earth shattering discovery.

here's an odd thought, Texas is a liberal leaning university and I think we can all agree on that.
One of the big. national liberal agenda items is discussing wealth inequality and closing the gap between haves' and have-nots. Yet a liberal bastion such at TU is promoting this wealth divide by using their own brand to make more money for themselves at the expense of "raising all other boats". Give up the LHN and make a big12 network and all schools would benefit equally.

I got no problem with the Longhorn Network as long as it makes financial sense. My only concern is as time passes, how long are they going to be able to broadcast games where the Longhorns win 100% of the time. Eventually I'm gonna see a Texas loss on this channel.
The wins are getting harder and harder to find with each season that passes.

I don't watch tv much. Watch SEC Network only when games are on. If I'm paying for LHN I wish they would have asked me first but it got thrown in there with the "ESPN Package" and I couldn't single it out

I am constantly told by Texas fans that the longhorn network is so great because it's a channel dedicated to them 24 hours a day.

So I was curious about it, and I looked at their TV line up and it's just the same 3 or 4 shows over and over.

Here's tomorrows lineup:

Watch Texas Longhorns Live Sports Events and Programs - Longhorn Network

Longhorn Extra is a 30 minute show that is on 16 different times. That's 8 hours of just the 1 show over and over.

So then you have a 1 hour show called Longhorn Weekly with Shaka Smart, and it's on 4 hours.

12 hours of the day is made up of these 2 shows alone.

Game Plan with Shaka Smart - a 30 minute show is on 3 times, for an hour and half.

For actual sports, you get a womans basketball game, a mens basketball game(re-airs) and a baseball game, which appears to be live.

And then there are some shows which are apparently so bad they only show them once and elect to show 12+ hours of that other junk.

Fair warning, the next time one of you Texas fans tries to act like the Longhorn network is somehow better than a conference network because "you got Texas on all the time", I'm going to flat out laugh at you. It's no wonder the channel is struggling, you barely have any content to fill the time.

Maybe you should put some paid programming on the channel for more diverse content and probably generate some revenue off it for a change.

How on earth did you find a day that the 2005 Rose Bowl wasn't airing? Seems like every time I scroll past that channel they are airing that game?

So does LHN not get or broadcast smaller sports? Track, swimming, golf?

Serious question. How many of you Longhorns watched the 24 hour long live coverage of Bevo last Christmas? I seriously thought that was a joke until someone provided the link.

They do broadcast some of those........but nobody really watches that stuff. LHN is great for games that aren't nationally carried like basketball or baseball games.......thats about it

hahahahaha man this blew up in the gumps face. Look, I love the LHN. I love the food show with augie, I love game plan with all the coaches, I love All Access, I love Longhorn Extra, I love Friday night lights reruns, and I love the old games. I love that I get to watch every home baseball game, shoot I even watched the softball game last week. I get why non horns fans won't love it, but the jealousy in this thread is hilarious.

FYI: The SEC Network has so much content they have to put it on multiple channels and call them "SEC Network Plus". It's not just the single lineup the Texas fan listed.

Those smaller sports would be what I'd be interested in, but just because they usually are during the day and hard to follow otherwise.

Well we keep beating OU, so don't hold your breath. My guess is if we lose a bowl game, they'll replay it a few times since ESPN owns all the bowls and the LHN.

BASEBALL is why I love it. All Access is great also, i'm sure the SEC network has a similar show.

SEC NETWORK + is not the broadcast Network. It is not a channel on any dial.
It is a streaming service provided by some of the carriers with the greater SEC NETWORK footprint.
Not all the carriers who have the Network offer the + service either.
You can watch it on your devices, or if you have certain streaming devices approved on your TV

That assumes you know how, you have the device, you have high speed internet and your carrier supports it.

The SEC Network mostly plays junk and endless repeated programs..... like everyone else does with 3rd tier.

Because for Texas fans it is a nice option to have. For the other 99.9% of College fans it's a boondoggle that keeps the Big12 in a constant toxic state.

the first part of your point is spot on. For Texas fans, you can check in every evening and get the daily Longhorn news.

The second part of your point is not as simple as that. There was an opportunity for a Big12 network: Schools such as Nebraska, OU and A&M among others voted it down.

Espins then offered Texas #300 Million. Texas took it.

So, in the end, not sure whose fault it all is. Yes, the others are envious, but as pointed out elsewhere, no networks are beating down doors to form a Big12 network, I mean these few tv sets in Kansas and Iowa are big money waiting to be plucked...I think not. As for all the others, they had their chance and opted out.

They have to stream it because they have more content than the channel allows for it is the point.
