I've always maintained the idea that involves not only his continued wearing of the burgundy and gold, but as time goes on he will prove to have been the better choice between Luck and himself. It would be absolutely foolish for this team to even entertain the idea of parting ways with him. Of course this is DC, so..........

First of all - if you are comparing RG3 to the Luck thus far this season you might be right (heck - 90% of the NFL QBs may be better than that but likely this is due to injury).

I am still on the fence on RG3. He may still be a decent QB (with another team). However - I am confused as to how in the world you are convinced that RG3 will be a star in the NFL. He thrived in year 1 but that was using a college offense that could not be sustained in the NFL. He obviously has physical skills (although his running ability may be down a bit due to injuries that he has incurred). However - playing NFL QB goes well beyond having physical skills.

I believe that RG3 is a smart guy (as evidenced by his work in the college classroom). However - this does not necessarily translate into having that same knowledge on the football field nor in perhaps ever having that knowledge. Most successful QBs have this knowledge well before they reach the NFL & don't magically pick it up in their mid 20s.

Sure - guys like Rodgers & Brady picked some things up from their coaches and other players when they reached the NFL, but they had a lot of this knowledge and related skill set well before this time. I actually disagree with you on Rodgers & believe that he would have done just as well if he were the starter from year 1 (he may have had a rocky rookie year but would have been fine after that).

Until proven otherwise - RG3 has major fundamental issues as a QB - poor pocket presence, inability to see the entire field, etc. You cannot just assume that these will go away with more time & coaching. The simple fact may be that RG3 will never really thrive in these areas - only time will tell. I wish him the best & hope he improves in these areas, but it is wishful thinking to believe that it is a given that these flaws will disappear or be significantly be diminished over the next several years.

They are can't wait for the basketball season to start they would give Maryland another beatdown if matched up

LOL. Maryland # 3 in AP poll & # 1 in another poll. West Virginia basically # 27. Try and stay current.

They shouldnt trade him unless the Browns offer a 7th.. in which case its a done deal.

Otherwise they should just let him sit and watch as the 3rd stringer for the rest of this seasons as well as 2016.

And he will NEVER prove to have been a better choice than Luck, Wilson or Tannehill for that matter

Are you serious? If my numbers are accurate...RG3 will make $1 mil per game in '16 with his new option.

Even Snyder doesn't piss that kind of jack away.

WAS has two ways to go here...release RG3 at the end of the season....or, make him the guy for 3 yrs at roughly $7 mil per with only about $10 mil guaranteed. If Gruden is the HC next year...WAS has one way to go here...Release RG3.

Dead serious. Its not like teams have not and will not burn money on guys that have not been worth it. As far as making Griffin the guy going forward, he has alot to improve on before he is actually put into a game again. Maybe Im hoping they can get something back from him although I highly doubt it. But I would be more tempted to maintain his rights and control where he goes now than release him knowing that the odds are real high he goes some where within our division if he is made a Free Agent. Since adds are high he would be going to Philly, I would hold his rights and trade him there for a conditional 4th that could become a 2nd based on playing time and performance.

But you are right, the Skins likely will simply release him. So I will just hope he ends up some where other than the NFC East.

The handful of football people that I know think RG3 has a mental hurdle with the pro game because he thinks the read option style he was successful with in CFB will work at this level and in part he leans on his rookie season as ammunition for this line of thinking.

Long story short, there is some concern with him being coachable....you mentioned fundamentals, is he willing to be stripped down and rebuilt?

The QB needy teams are getting more sparse, but he is a great talent...a OC...HC that can get thru to him and ween him off being a "runner" and into a distributor that can make some plays on his own too.

I have not been following this much, but I thought I heard the 16.5 million option based on playing time this year, which was more of why Cousins was playing.

Retaining...I agree, that ship has sailed.

Control...that's a lot of cap money tied up for such a small reward of controlling where he goes....you've seen enough of RG3, why would it matter if he landed in the DIV as a FA?

Trade...help me with this. I understand the OFC is suited to RG3 strengths, Bradford's deal rolls off, and I know he's not lighting it up, but the cost to get him was too steep for a 1 yr rental....he'd have to really suck the rest of the yr for them to trade for $16 mil cap hit QB next year that may not have taken a snap the previous year in a game.

We don't completely disagree. I didn't say that he won't be a successful QB in this league. However - I believe that it is borderline insane to say that it is a given (at least to the pt of believing he will be one of the best ever).

Are you 100% confident that RG3 (with say proper coaching) can successfully read NFL defenses on a regular basis? Can find the 2nd & 3rd receivers on most plays? Can step into a pocket & feel pressure from the blind side? To date I have seen no evidence that he is making progress in these areas & think that it is 50/50 at best that he will significantly improve in these areas.

Perhaps you are seeing something that most of us just don't see. Again - wish him the best. BTW - outside of you and the Griffin family I don't think that anyone believes that RG3 will eventually become a better QB than Luck.

Possible, but it doesn't show on the internet cap sites as an incentivized contract. I think the 5th yr option was always $16 mil and they picked it up largely because of Snyder probably.

This is key, though: the option is guaranteed for injury only. As long as Griffin’s healthy heading into next season, the Skins can cut him and pay out nothing.

Washington Picks Up Robert Griffin III's 2016 Option

Still does not make sense, why would you want to guarantee money only if a player is injured? Anyway, it seems like if he did get traded and play, got hurt entering next year, is the only way the team that would have traded for him was stuck with him.

That 16 million is guaranteed only if he is injured this year and cannot pass a physical exam either at the end of this season or prior to next season. BTW: his current salary would have to have been paid had they kept him or not this year. Letting him go this year should have been a no brainer for a team (and a lot of its fans) that believe him to be a complete bust.......The exception being....... they did NOT release him and to me that is significant. Some will say that the only reason he's still here is Snyder and Allen, again I disagree. Just listen carefully to what's being said by Gruden about his QB's. "Right now, Kirk gives us the best chance to win......he's our QB for this year." Not exactly a ringing endorsement for KC, nor an indictment that with work, one of the others won't prove to be better than what's available "right now."

Philly could do a trade and rework his deal, he does have that option as a player. As for not wanting him in the division, and especially in Philly. I think thats the one place and the one coach who could actually get something out of him. Thus I dont want to see him go there. I dont think he will ever become more than an average Pro Style QB. He is too set in his ways, and has too many bad habits. But if he goes to a coach willing to twist the system to fit his skill set I freely admit he could be a difference maker. Thus I would rather see him else where. The Browns would be ideal, but I dont think they are done with the Johnny Numb Nutz project just yet.

Colin Kaepernick has now been benched for Blaine Fucking Gabbert. His regression does not support the theory that a spread offense, read option QB can suddenly get it. How many more spread offense college QBs need to flame out before the fans get it? I'll admit, I was one of the last holdouts on RGIII. But it should be obvious what is going on here.

No one ever said that he would be the best ever, the reference was related to future comparisons to A. Luck only. In as much as his progress goes, I can't imagine Matt Cavanaugh signing here just to get paid. His work ethic and track record goes a long way towards seeing marked improvements from these guys.

That is of course one way to look at it. The other is that the NFL must adapt as fewer and fewer college teams are using traditional pro style offenses and more are relying on the spread. I have been saying all along that the primary reason for the increased number of flame outs is because there is a rush to play these guys.....ready or not, the current NFL mantra is Sink or swim. Isn't it possible that giving these guys time to learn an entirely new way to play the game is and will be the best course for teams going forward? I know that, it's old school and that there is an impatience in our 30mins or less society, not to mention the money that these guys are signed for. Honestly, the great "sink or swim" experiment is failing these young men. Time to try something else!

It is not that a team wants to guarantee that money due to injury - it is that it is a condition of the contract as it is with many contracts. Otherwise - many NFL teams would simply discard many injured players & not pay them a cent.

As for RG3 getting injured entering next season - given his past this is entirely possible. That is one of the reasons why the Redskins would prefer not to play him next season & why teams probably won't trade for him now. If you receive him in a trade it would be risky to play him this season & possibly have him incur an injury that spills into next season.

What about the possibility that perhaps a lot of these successful college QBs will never be good NFL QBs regardless of coaching, sitting a few years, etc? Perhaps they have a skill set that is just suited for the college game. Again - good QB play goes well beyond having certain physical tools. In a lot of cases you can't tell how good a QB will be until he actually gets to the NFL level - Brady is a perfect example of this.
