The de-evolution of the game

lol

You know that 2022-23 graphic is bullshit, right?

In the 2022-23 season...

The Clippers averaged 13.2 midrange shots per game, the Nets averaged 13.6, the Hawks averaged 14.7, the Suns averaged 15.7 (KD and Booker both like midrange shots) and the Bulls averaged 17.8 (DeMar DeRozan is the midrange king).

That's just the top 5 midrange shooting teams.

And even then…

People crying over all the 3s completely fail to realize that the change in shot selection has been that players are shooting 3s instead of midrange jumpers.

In other words…

They are passing up on a 2 point shot where the league average is around 40% for a 3 point shot where the league average is around 36%.

The outrage here is pretty hilarious.

Looking at the league averages over the last 20 years is interesting. The league average for 3 pt percentage has pretty much been 36 % across the whole period. Over that span though 3 pt attempts are up from 16 per game to an all time high of 37.6 this season. The interesting part is the fact that overall fg % the last 3 seasons is higher than at any point in the last 20 years.

Not going to do what you want it to.

We are in a conundrum, where if you go back to no zones and allow teams to iso the post again, it won't have the same effect because the outside shooting is so much stronger and bigs are better passers but lack the post moves.

Not to mention scores will really take off with no zoning.

The real thing that people don’t like?

Today’s players are just so incredibly skilled. They prefer the pretense of defense back when they were allowed to manhandle each other.

They were taught back in 1994 that closer to the basket = better shot. And that is just not true. It never was.

Just go through each team and see how many games are missed by star players

That alone will tell you why ratings are down

All major sports better wake up to this

Makin millions while the workin man strugglin ain’t goin over to well

Enough is enough.

You made it to the show by playin hurt.

Jacking up 3s is the sport to losers like you that can't work inside. No timing, no quickness, no peripheral vision, and a slow mind. That's tlance for ya.
"Yeah just jack up a 3"
"this is awesome"
"yay NBA"

It always bothered me because the whole game comes down to 100 “blocking v charge” judgement calls by the refs. And they probably get half of those wrong anyway. It’s not much different than the endless pass interference calls/non-calls that have mostly ruined football.

They also stopped calling traveling in the NBA. They need to enforce that better.
I kind of liked the mid to late 80s NBA. Mostly low scoring and physical. Players back then would occasionally get clotheslined as they were driving towards the hoop. I also liked It when the players and fans got into that big brawl back in the 90s. The game has kind of gone soft TBH.,

No, it is math.

And it isn’t just jacking up any contested 3. That would be bad offense.

The best teams move the ball, drive, kick and get good open 3s.

Modern basketball at the highest level requires great timing, quickness, athleticism, vision, skill and decision making.

More so than ever before.
