There can be a few different reasons. As @bksballer89 pointed out, if it's an NBA Cup game, point differential is part of the criteria for "seeding" and who gets in.

If the team has put their bench players in, they are trying to earn playing time and would be wanting to continue to run the offense, if the offense is a 3 heavy system, you're going to continue to get 3's shot.

If it's early in the 4th, they may continue to shoot them to put the game out reach quickly.

It's basically an In Season Tournament similar to what other sports have. It started last season. It was mostly met with skepticism (at least on here) but the players seem to actually care, so that helps. It can make an early season random Tuesday or Wednesday night game more interesting.

Not sure it was necessary, but it's been more successful than many (myself included) thought it would be.

Dumbasses couldn't even figure out that there was no defense so 2s would have been easy. A made 2 cuts the differential more than a missed 3. But it's not about that. It's about lazy basketball. Lazy offense, lazy defense, and a game that matters to no one at that point.

They should still be taking 3s.

But yes, they should also work the shot clock in most cases.

Although an open 3 in transition is better than just about any shot you are going to get out of half court offense.

So that is why they still take those shots.

For the cup...now pay close attention...scoring margin matters. You wanna win each game by as many points possible.

I'd also add that teams have 24 seconds to get a shot off. When the game is out of reach, you'll see 3's shot by guys who either don't play much shooting 3's or guys who don't normally shoot 3's shooting them.

Those are the NBA version of footballs "Victory Formation". 3's shot by players who are least likely to make them.
