I'd just say easy there guys. JD knows what he's doing and I think he has something planned. It could be a huge block buster deal, and it may not be. But JD has earned my trust and whatever he has planned has been planned and analyzed again and again. I just think things have been eerily quiet from the rangers and something will happen Sunday or Monday.

Also, the Angels have absolutely nothing in the farm now. Lol.

Oh, I definitely agree that JD is working on something big. But I would contend that the Angels never had much of a farm to begin with. Jean Segura? Garrett Richards? They are not special players now, nor have they ever been projected to be. I can't believe the Brewers accepted such a mediocre package.

I guess I'm just not as high on Mike Olt as others are. The Rangers have had countless "special prospects" come up through the system at the corner infield positions who never amounted to the hype... Hank Blalock (good for a few years), Jason Botts, Chris Davis, Justin Smoak... those guys for the most part mashed at AA but none became truly irreplaceable superstars. Maybe Olt is different. But I see a guy who is striking out a lot and currently blocked by the best 3B the team has ever had (granted, Olt could move to 1B). I see the reasoning behind protecting can't-miss middle infield stars like Andrus and now Profar. And I also definitely see the value in refusing to sell off top young arms like Holland, Feliz, and now Perez (especially considering the history the Rangers have had attracting free agent pitchers). But corner bats can be had on the free agent market. Hitters want to come to Arlington. I wouldn't just give away Olt just to trade, but I would if it meant getting a World Series difference-making ace. Hopefully that's exactly what JD is up to as we speak.

I think JD may have plans for Olt.

Was thinking the same thing. This tells me Texas was never in on Greinke to begin with and their "interest" was just a smoke screen to divert attention away from their actual game plan and drive up the price on Greinke.

I hope you're right. I will withhold any kind of judgment until all moves have been made. Angels struck first and now we get to see If JD can top them.

I didnt/dont consider Greinke as being a "world series difference-making ace".

Exactly. Texas could have beat that package even without including Olt. I think (hope) that JD diverted the Angels' attention from an even bigger prize.

You haven't watched Zack Greinke pitch much then. There is only a very small handful of pitchers better than him.

yeah... actual "aces".

He would not have been the difference maker for the Rangers. Not sad they "missed" out on him.

To me Greinke = CJ

JD doesn't have to top LA. Texas isn't the ones 5 games back.

I'd love to hear your list of "aces" then if Zack Greinke isn't one of them. Kershaw, Verlander, Felix, Weaver, Sabathia, maybe still Lee, maybe still Halladay, Strasburg..... So Greinke is somewhere around the 8th-10th best starter in baseball. I'd love to hear how he's not an ace (seeing as how even the scouts describe him that way).

Greinke is better than CJ. CJ Wilson has never even sniffed winning a Cy Young. CJ Wilson is a very good pitcher. Greinke is elite.

:L CJ has been a starter for all of three years. Check his numbers. They look pretty damn good.

Price, J. Johnson, Hamels, Lincecum (and Carpenter & Wainwright when healthy)

He's on the same plane as Lester, CJ, Gallardo, Cain. He's good...but not...as you like to say.. "elite".

Thought CJ finished 6th in CY-A last year?

and lets not forget that Greinke's CYA year was back in Kansas City. In 2009. Other years? Not even mentioned in the race.

Oh, and Greinke's #'s against the AL = not impressive.

60-67. Almost a 4 ERA lifetime.

You overuse that little icon. I just got through saying that CJ was a very good pitcher. But to compare him to Greinke is flat-out wrong. You won't find one single scout, GM, or analyst who would say they are equal. Greinke has shut-down dominant stuff. CJ relies a lot more on location. Even egotistical CJ used to joke about not being a pitcher with nasty stuff. He's a very good pitcher for sure though.

For all we know the Rangers never had no intentions of acquiring Greinke. I think we will see a surprise by Tuesday

I only use it when called for, and stuff doesn't necessarily equal a better pitcher. Cliff Lee case and point. They guy lives on the edges not power stuff. Also, you're speaking in certainties you couldn't possibly account for.

Lincecum?!? That is laughable. Lincecum has fallen off a cliff. He is nowhere near as good as Greinke right now. Greinke also has better numbers than Josh Johnson and a better FIP than Cole Hamels. Jon Lester has lost velocity and his numbers have declined for two years straight. The Red Sox would trade him for Greinke straight up in a heartbeat.

You've seriously undervalued Matt Cain too. Cain is downright dominant.

Even if you put a couple more pitchers ahead of Greinke, I would still call a top-15 overall starter, recent CY Young winner with a 3.4 ERA, and better than a K per inning ratio an ace.
