Figure I would do @outofyourmind a favor and just bump this for fun. Are we able to change the thread title to...

Better team: 97 Nebraska Cornhuskers or 97 Michigan Pretenders?

Seems about right.

I think the BIG likes to count both of those Natty's in their totals.

That’s funny that you think the B1G recognizes your wood stick any more than the entire rest of the college football world outside of Michigan.

I just went back and looked over the major match-ups from 1997. No doubt in my mind that Nebraska was the best team.

If you read any of my posts in this thread, I am pretty sure I clearly lay out the numbers and statistics on why Nebraska would have dominated Michigan.

Is that the year Nebraska was losing to Mizzo and Huskers threw up a desperation pass at the end that got kicked off the ground and called a TD?

No. It's the year the Big 10 hid out in the Rose Bowl so they wouldn't have to play anyone better than #8 Washington St.

What year was that play?

'97 season/Jan 1 '98 Rose Bowl.

The Big 10 had refused to join the Bowl Coalition ('92, '93, '94) and the Bowl Alliance ('95, 96, '97) that was meant to pit #1 vs #2 in a NC Game.

'97 was also the year Bob Griese had the ABC microphone every Saturday saying "MY BOY BRIAN, MY BOY BRIAN, MY BOY BRIAN".

"We had to fight to the last second,” said Michigan’s senior quarterback, Brian Griese, who was voted the game’s outstanding player.

Make that the last two seconds. Washington State was a mere 26 yards from the Michigan end zone when a referee came waving his arms, indicating that time had expired. Cougar players stood by, helplessly. Their fans did the same, in disbelief, as the final 0:02 ticked off the clock."

The Last 2 Seconds Make Michigan No. 1

It was also the year the majority of AP voters turned in their ballots before the #1 Nebraska vs #3 Tennessee Orange Bowl was even played.

.

A little tid bit of that game was a cheap shot on Michael Black when he was already down was the only reason Michigan even had the lead before the refs screwed us. The only people that think Michigan was on Nebraska’s level in 97 think UCF was co champs with Alabama.

What year was that play?

It was the year that B1G lost almost every bowl game.

It was the year the Rose Bowl officiating crew removed seconds from the clock, even though the official had stopped the clock, when Washington State was burning the Michigan defense for passing yards and possibly would have won the game.

it was the year when Michigan did not face Heisman trophy running back Ron Dayne.

It was the year when mediocre running backs were routinely running for 100 yards against Michigan. Nebraska was #1 in rushing offense.

It was the year Michigan had no offense, their opponents had no offenses, and Michigan was losing at home going into the 4th quarter in a few games.

All im saying is 1 team bitched out and decided to play in the rose bowl, and that game still isnt over, the other team went on and beat the #3 team soundly.

One team got a real trophy the Crystal Football, the other team got kindling

One team has won 5 different Football shaped national championship trophys over the past 50 years the other has none.

One is a has been the other is a "never been/never will"
