A thought - if you think Barely deserves MVP - why not Ja'Maar Chase?

Winning the triple crown of receiving is more rare than running for 2,000 yards in the modern era.

List of 2K rushers since 2005 - 4.
List of TC WR since 2005 - 2

Just a thought for discussion on that point - not saying Chase should be - just something I noticed...

Chance Allen hits his potential was so small. 56% completion percentage in the mountain west, and a near 4% interception rate.

Those are basically his numbers his first few years in the NFL. Before year 3 that pick was looking atrocious.

This is easily Lamar's best season yet. Definitely don't care whether he wins another MVP or not. His year will be measured by the postseason. I believe he feels the same way.

Lamar made huge strides this year as a passer. There's no argument here if he wins MVP this year, IMO, and honestly it has nothing to do with him being better than last year (Where he won MVP as well). This season stands on its own.

well I think once you have multiple players from the same team bidding for MVP. It is an individual award. Its not MVPs. So they kind of cancel each other out. Burrow & Chase cancel each other out.
If they started talking about Henry. That would cancel out Lamar.

MVP. Who is the one player ...........

Could be....to play devil's advocate:

Would Chase do what he does without Burrow? I mean, he'd still be really freakin' good...but triple crown good?

I mean - WR's are more dependent on their QB than the other way around, usually (not always)...where as having a 1500 yard rusher is pretty independent of the QB - especially in Henry's case as he has a long history of top tier rushing years, including a 2K season, IIRC....

I guess, what I mean is, can you really go with a team that has 2 guys and say they cancel each other out? Not so sure, but I see where you're going and I'm not 100% disagreeing...

REe Burrow & Chase, does anyone know who's won it without being on a playoff team? I don't feel like doing the work.

I changed my vote to Lamar.

At least two of them are Johnny Unitas and OJ, not sure if there’s more or not

I always struggle whether wins/losses should matter. I mean, it's part of the equation I suppose, but much like a pitcher in MLB - you can do all you can, but if you give up 1 run and your offense doesn't score, you lose.

Bengals offense had a stretch of games where they put up 34 points a game. In three of those 5 games, they were at home. The defense gave up an average of 38 points in those games - and gave up over 40 twice. While the Bengals didn't make the playoffs, they did win 9 games...they would be a 2 win team without him - and honestly, with this defense - that might be generous.

I think hanging the balance of if someone is MVP worthy or not on wins/losses is a bit flimsy, but I do get it.

I did vote for Burrow in this pole, but honestly - I think it's really hard not to see Jackson winning it again. However, just for good measure - Burrow did set an NFL record this year throwing for 250+ and 3TD+ in something like 6 straight games - which no one had ever done before...in addition to leading the league in Yards and TD's. So, though he won't win - finally in a healthy year, he showed what he could do. Now if the Bengals could just get some OL protection...imagine if he wasn't getting sacked nearly 50 times a year...

Damn, the rushing yards to rushing TD’s is pretty crazy. Then again, Ravens have Henry and Allen probably QB sneaking them in whenever Cook isn’t getting the red zone TD’s.

Allen is overall a pretty athletic guy though.

Idk after reading this thread and teetering between Allen and Jackson, I ultimately went with Jackson, he deserves a third one.

Ya,those stats alone should get LJ another mvp.....

I just hope the voters don't give Allen the map simply because Lamar has just won two.....
They should not take it out on Lamar.....he's earned it in my opinion.

the problem with looking at stats alone. Is the award isnt for the one with the best stats or most years there wouldnt be a debate.
It is Most Valuable Player. Which I take is to their team.
You have an almost 2000 yd rusher on the same team as Lamar. You plug in a above avg QB to the ravens. Their record doesnt change much. IMO.
If you plug in above avg. QB to the Bills, they lose a lot more games. So the debate would be. Which one is more valuable to the team they are on.
The Ravens defense is better, the Ravens running game is better, & in my personal opinion. I think the Ravens has one of the best coaching staffs in all of the NFL. (Mad props to John Harbaugh)

Now with that said.
I will have no issues with if Lamar wins it "this" year. Because he has one of the best years as a "passer" we have seen. His rushing stats that the media gushes over, is just the icing on the cake to the argument this year. (not the bulk of the argument)

I voted for Lamar but this graphic is garbage. Josh Allen was in 16 games and went 13-3. He handed off the ball once in the 17th game.

Josh Allen is just a beast.

65 rushing TDs in 7 seasons. Along with 195 passing TDs.

For perspective, Lamar Jackson has 33 rushing TDs and 166 passing TDs. Obviously he has more rushing yards but I thought he would have had more TDs on the ground compared to Allen.

As meaningless as this award really is, I voted Josh Allen. He's just the next QB on the list. Had Lamar not won it just last season and Derek Henry being such a force, it might be Lamar but I think the media votes Allen simply because the Bills were supposed to take a step back. He could get penalized because of the same thing Brady went through for years. The division stinks. Can't really take anything away from Allen but the real MVP should be Saquon and Burrow should be included but he won't because QBwinz is a real thing and the slow start cost them the season when all was said and done. They beat the Pats week 1 and they are in the play-offs and he is in this conversation for sure.

I understand your points, but that’s the thing though, let’s say a lot of the games this year Lamar was hurt, they don’t have an above average QB behind him, you think Josh Johnson starting most games this year would give the Ravens the same or around the same success?

I think a lot of the other offensive players play better because of what Lamar brings to the field such as defensive adjustments based on the threat of his style of play, and I also think they they play hard for him period.

You did say that was your opinion though, so I respect that, but in my opinion that’s just too much conjecture to assume that the Ravens would be where they are with an above average QB plugged in when in reality teams are working with backup QB’s in the league when the starter goes down that are not on that level.

Allen and Jackson are both great, I’m fine with either one winning and ultimately it doesn’t matter, I’m looking forward to watching them both play postseason ball though :suds:
