Nebraska had a surprise camper show up during their quarterback camp on Sunday.
Winnfield (La.) Senior athlete Alonzo Moore, the 6-2, 170-pound prospect who has played a variety of positions going back to his freshman year, decided to make his way to Lincoln this weekend. Though he had been reported as to already holding a Nebraska scholarship offer heading into the camp, it was reaffirmed by the Husker coaches and Bo Pelini after his visit concluded.
Alonzo Moore impressed Nebraska at a lot of positions during camp.
"I'm just leaving Nebraska," Moore said. "It went great. I came down yesterday and I'm on my way back now."
"I performed well. I went in as a quarterback and then I had to go in as a wide out [Monday]. Then I did some cornerback stuff. I had a talk with the cornerbacks coach (Corey Raymond), he's my recruiter, and I talked to the quarterbacks coach-offensive coordinator (Tim Beck). He was working with us."
It seems that the Husker coaches liked him at just about every position he participated in at camp. That's why they told him that the offer on the table was as an athlete.
"The quarterbacks coach was telling me, if I look at the offense, I'd fit in right now with what plays they do," Moore said. "The DB coach, he said he'd love to have me at DB."
Moore lined up as a quarterback as a freshman and sophomore, but added wide receiver to his list of duties for Winnfield in 2010. From the talented athlete's perspective, the Nebraska coaches really liked the way he could run and throw.
"The quarterback coach, he was impressed," Moore said. "He said, 'let me see you run some option,' I ran it like their style. He said, 'man I don't know what to say - it was all in one motion the way you run option.'"
For Moore, his favorite part aside from working with the coaches and just seeing the school of course, was how Nebraska liked him at a variety of different roles.
"Knowing that they label me as an athlete," he said about what he liked most about his trip. "That was really exciting knowing that I'm labeled as an athlete, knowing I can do quarterback, wide out, or DB.
LSU has been considered the big front runner for quite some time, yet the Tigers have yet to offer Moore. He broke down what he knows about the top programs that have offered to date. Before Nebraska, he camped at Mississippi State.
"I mean, everything is changing," he said. "I haven't got an offer from LSU right now. So you know, I'm really looking into schools I have offers from. Mississippi State and Nebraska, it's hard to say which one is one or two (of the schools that have offered)."
Ole Miss is the only other stop that Moore has a date set for and that is on July 23. He's currently working on getting dates set up to visit Oregon and Texas A&M.
All the visits and new interest has Moore putting a lot of thought into when he wants to make a decision.
"I thought about it today, I was going to do it like at the end of the summer," he said about when he plans to commit. "Then I was thinking, 'do I want to do it during the school [year]? It will be soon like at the beginning of school."
As a sophomore, Moore accounted for 2,100 total yards. The move to wide receiver as a junior didn't stop his gaudy stats. He caught 49 passes for 1,246 yards and 17 touchdowns with a 25.4 yards-per-catch average. He also rushed 53 times for 591 yards and nine more scores in 2010.
That helped him earn first-team all-state honors for Class 2A and first-team all-district honors last season.
He showed his athleticism on the basketball court, averaging 21 points a game.
I don't feel bad one bit for copying and pasting that from Rivals either............Rivals can suck on my mysteriously-large testicles..........
Mother fuckers told me that if I ended my free 3-month trial by May 13th that I would not get charged............I called in on May 12th and they told me "technically you have to cancel 2 days before the ending date so we have time to get it all canceled and what not."
I got charged $99.99 for a year subscription. Fuck them.
