I don't have an issue with people believing Brady is better. When the foundation of that argument is 'rings' alone....that's when I realize some people are either myopic in their fandom or just don't grasp the concept of football.

For me, Ill just never be convinced the Pats have less success with aaron Rodgers, and the Packers have more success with Tom Brady.......To just conclude "SB Rings" while ignoring all of the surrounding factors, is just lazy and stupid

I also believe Rodgers is the better player but all QB's are ultimately judged by SB wins.

Dilfer better than Marino? Brad Johnson better than Fouts? Jim Plunkett better than most every QB in history?

Do you need any other argument to show that the 'rings' argument alone is biblically stupid? I sure don't.

Just looking it up.....the Packers allowed two teams last year in the playoffs to go over 30 points. The last two times the Patriots allowed 30 points was once in 2014 and once in 2009.
And they won.

Trophies are a team accomplishment. Just in this thread we had a skit about how great Edelman is, Hoody, the NE defense, etc. Not once has Brady won the SB when his defense was sub-par.
The defense gave up 29 points in Super Bowl 38 and they won.

Dilfer, Johnson and Plunkett were just farts in the wind. Sometimes shit happens.

Yes but the Super Bowl is just another name for the NFL Championship. They renamed it in 1966.
Poppycock- the Super Bowl was named that way because the AFL and NFL were competing leagues. In the very earliest of SB's, the NFCCG was considered by 'NFL' fans to be the real championship game. SB I tape you don't see the fans much, because it was a mostly empty stadium.

Well sure no one would convince you of that, it's a fantasy land game and irrelevant.

Doesn't matter. The point was the sample isn't representative of anything but the SportsHoopla population.
OK? It's a SportsHoopla poll?
But you may be onto something there. Taking into account some of the posters lack of knowledge it's not by any means scientific.

So what is your point?
"Not once has Brady won the SB when his defense was sub-par"

That's what I was responding to. That's an example of him winning a SB when his defense was sub-par.

Not when its based on opinion.....Tom Brady has a ring in a game he threw for 145 yards, but history will ignore that.......There are huge postseason games, including 2 SB's that I believe they lost mostly because of Tom Brady, but again, history ignores those

Yup....but then the flip side is Marino, Fouts and dozens and dozens of other QB's that didn't win is the ultimate punch in the face to those that just put forth the 'rings' argument. It's arguably the laziest argument in sports....and it STILL has traction.

I agree the Lombardi is a team accomplishment. But so is every stat. So your point?

I can pull up N=1's where Rodgers wins if the defense gives up X as well. This doesn't seem particularly compelling. The probability is duly noted but the improbable is often reality. SB 51 the Patriots had sub 1% odds of winning the game. I don't view things in the lens of clutch- but moreso probability.

It's amazing how Patriots fans give Brady all the credit and ignore the architect of that team Bill Belichick.

You can isolate traits with film or cancel out some of the noise with intelligent use of stats. By no means do I claim perfection, just that stats (and qualitative analysis) are better than the show me the rings mindset which leaves out far too much, imo.

Meh, IIRC Hoody still has a losing record without Brady due to the Browns days. They compliment each other- that's good enough for me. If Brady isn't the GOAT he is not at all far from being it. Many great coaches never get the luxury of a QB that can propel their team in the playoffs. Coming from a guy who adamantly believes Hoody is the GOAT.
