The Giants are so deep at lots of positions, this is really hard to do. Not 100% off the top of my head, but pretty close…

C - Posey (HM: Haller, Ewing)
1B - McCovey, W. Clark (HM: Belt, Terry, Cepeda, Snow, …. This category is STACKED)
2B - Thompson, Kent (HM: Doyle, Frisch)
SS - Crawford, Jackson (HM: Vizquel, Aurilia)
3B - Hart, Williams (HM: Lindstrom, Devlin)
LF - Bonds (HM: Burns, Irvin, Mitchell)
CF - GOAT (HM: Thomson)
RF - Ott (HM: Tiernan, Bonds Sr, Clark, Youngs)

SP - Mathewson, Hubbell, Marichal, Perry, Bumgarner, Timmeh (HM: Keefe, Fitzsimmons, Schmidt)

Closer - Nen, Beck (HM: Wilson, Romo, Casilla)

I would put the Giants’ OF against any other team’s OF (Including the Spanks). Same with the DEPTH at 1B.

I tried to keep pre-1900 players off the list, but Ewing, Keefe and Tiernan were just too good to leave off.
I would have thought Darrell Evans and Chris Speier might make the list. Maybe because my formative years watching baseball was mid 70s and 80s.

For the expansion teams as much as people LOL @ them I think the Mets are the most storied. Highlights
-the 40-120 inaugural season, managed by legendary Casey Stengel
-winning the 1969 World Series with Seaver, Koosman , Nolan Ryan and Tug McGraw
-losing the 1973 World Series, bringing an aging Willie Mays back to New York
-Gooden, Strawberry
-All the Seinfeld references with Hernandez and Costanza
-King of Queens

Well…

New York.

A bit of a media bias going on there.

And look at their competition…

Padres
Pilots/Brewers
Mariners
Colt 45s/Astros
Twins/Senators
Expos/Nats
Angels

Marlins (2 ‘ships in 30 years ain’t bad)
Rockies
D’Backs
Rays (most understated dominant team in sports, probably)

Twins aren’t expansion. You’re thinking of Rangers. Different Washington Senators franchises

Right now the Yankees are a very boring story. Having trouble sleeping? Just turn on a Yankee game.

Didn’t leave a lot of room for discussion. I think you nailed all the teams and out them in their proper tiers.

Yankees

Sox / Giants / Dogs / Cubs / Cards

A’s / Reds / Pirates / Braves / Tigers

Everyone else

Basically, you have the 3 rivalries and then a few special cases then everyone else.

That about covers it.
Thats the list, pretty much. I'd bump the Cards ahead of the Cubs but they're in the same tier regardless. Chicago is the bigger market so either way that works.

I'd bump the Tigers to the top of tier 2.

I was only “tiering” them. The order was random.

Best defensive CF of all time. Was good longer than Murphy too

even in their peaks, Jones had more 6+ WAR seasons than Murphy (5 to 4). Jones had eight 4+ WAR seasons while Murphy had 6. Jones had 11 seasons of 3+ WAR and Murphy had 7

Jones had 16.2 more WAR despite having almost 400 fewer PA.

I would have thought Darrell Evans and Chris Speier might make the list. Maybe because my formative years watching baseball was mid 70s and 80s.

I started following sports when I was 7 years old in 1987. I found out some years later that Darrell Evans used to play for the Giants, but I always think of him as a Tiger. The Tiger and Twins faced each other in the first baseball postseason I watched.

I love Speier, but he was just an average player, utility guy in the seasons I watched. I didn't even know until years later that I was watching his second stint on the Giants. But even crediting him with the excellent seasons from the early 1970s, I still have to give the starting SS spot to Brandon Crawford.

I started following baseball in ‘86 (Humm Baby, You Gotta Love These Kids). I placed Thompson too high on my list. He probably should have maxed at HM.

But BC is legit an all-timer. He probably isn’t as good as Jackson, but Jackson played soooo long ago, it is near impossible to compare.

But if McCann is truly that great defensively, might have to change my catcher
