How many teams have NOT moved cities and/or changed names, though (of the teams that have made our shortlists)?

Spanks - Baltimore Orioles, New York Highlander’s, New York Yankees
Red Sox - Americans, Red Sox
Doggies - 9 different names through their history
Cards - Brown Stockings, Browns, Perfectos, Cardinals
Giants - New York and San Francisco (always the Giants)
Cubs - White Stockings, Colts, Orphans, Cubs
Tigers - Always the Tigers
Reds - Red Stockings, Redlegs, Reds
A’s - Philly, KC, Oakland (always the Athletics)
Pirates - Allegheny’s, Pirates
Tigers have only changed their address once. Bennett Park was at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull before the American League started up. Tiger Stadium was at the same corner.

Weren’t the Giants the Gothams at one point?

I probably need to bench Will Clark and put McCovey at 1B and Ott in RF. I just love Clark because he was my first favorite player. I never even knew about Jackson and Davis until you mentioned them.
You can start both, if you have a DH. Lol

They’re guys worth reading about. Both great players. Both HOFers. And the both can play short or third.

What’s your all time Giants lineup and rotation?

Not to put you on the spot, take your time if you don’t have one already made out in your head. I like this exercise in baseball trivia.

As for pitchers, I'd have Christy Mathewson, Carl Hubbell, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry, Madison Bumgarner. My heart wants Lincecum in here, but he'll have to come out of the bullpen as long or middle relief. Closer committee is Robb Nen and Rod Beck.

Gary Levelle as a lefty stopper is a nice option too.

All time Giants is nasty for sure.

The Giants are so deep at lots of positions, this is really hard to do. Not 100% off the top of my head, but pretty close…

C - Posey (HM: Haller, Ewing)
1B - McCovey, W. Clark (HM: Belt, Terry, Cepeda, Snow, …. This category is STACKED)
2B - Thompson, Kent (HM: Doyle, Frisch)
SS - Crawford, Jackson (HM: Vizquel, Aurilia)
3B - Hart, Williams (HM: Lindstrom, Devlin)
LF - Bonds (HM: Burns, Irvin, Mitchell)
CF - GOAT (HM: Thomson)
RF - Ott (HM: Tiernan, Bonds Sr, Clark, Youngs)

SP - Mathewson, Hubbell, Marichal, Perry, Bumgarner, Timmeh (HM: Keefe, Fitzsimmons, Schmidt)

Closer - Nen, Beck (HM: Wilson, Romo, Casilla)

I would put the Giants’ OF against any other team’s OF (Including the Spanks). Same with the DEPTH at 1B.

I tried to keep pre-1900 players off the list, but Ewing, Keefe and Tiernan were just too good to leave off.

Giants were the Gothams at one point very early in their history. Dodgers should go back to Bridegrooms. LOL.
I thought they were the Gothams as well, but I couldn’t confirm that in my quick search. Was that their OFFICIAL name, or just a nickname?

Jackson is one of the greatest SS of all time. But yes, his legend hasn’t really stood the test of time.

And Tampa used to be called the Devil Rays.

What’s your point?
Wasn't that a list of teams and the names they've had? I was just adding one I knew

Names seem to be very fluid in the establishment years.

Nicknames that came and went because of the best player or managers, or really good deals they got on hats or socks.

AL team have an advantage here since the league absorbed teams that already existed. A lot was settled out in earlier in the Western and Federal Leagues.

Yanks
Cards
Red Sox

Giants
Dodgers
Tigers
Cubs
Reds

I left off the Pirates for going full small market and the A's for having volatility around moving again. And the Braves for moving so many times but I could also swap Cincy and Atlanta.

If we were going strictly on performance the Cubs would be out.

Much like blue blood status in college football, it means nothing if you’re not winning now.

Yankees
Red Sox
Cubs
Dodgers
Giants
Cardinals

Other teams have a case, and many have better histories than the Cubs, but those are the 6 I’d say are locks.

But I wouldn’t trade recent success for success before I was born.

Wow, I just saw that…

9 of the last 13 championships by those 6 teams. And all have at least 1.

The Mariners are more like a haiku than a storied franchise.

The most celebrated team in franchise history lost in the ALCS in five to a team that won 21 fewer games. Lolz.

Pretty fuckin’ sick when the week link in your OF is Mel Ott.

And that "weak link" is 15th all-time in WAR and 27th in OPS+. Insane outfield.
