They're very similar players IMO. Rebounders and paint scorers that still need some work on their perimeter games. Obviously Zion is more explosive, but Randle has the length advantage (but those kind of even out). Randle can play small-ball center.

Ultimately, it's not the Pelicans decision. Randle has a player option for $9M, and I doubt he'll be happy with that.
He will easily opt out and get a 20 million or more on a 3 to 5 year contract easily. Pelicans might give it, but he will have other offers

If he's a duplication of Zion, why the hell does everyone have a boner about Zion? Why aren't we hanging on every word Randle says?

Duplication in the sense that they play basically the same type of game. Zion is the more explosive/higher upside/better player.

Kobe's game was a duplication, in many ways, of MJ. But he wasn't as good as MJ.

Duplication of roles. A forward that isn't quite a 3 pt threat, but undersized in the post vs true centers.

Sure I just think Zion has as much chance of being another Randle as he does of being a Griffin/Barkley super hybrid

Brooklyn. Guy's a good player, hope he finds some consistent play wherever he ends up.

This, I agree with. I've actually heard some folks that are starting to suggest that Morant might actually end up being the better pro.

If Zion ends up being another Randle, it makes him and Randle even more of a duplication.

New Orleans Pelicans
i

Projected room: $14.9 million

Who returns: Anthony Davis (for now), Jrue Holiday, Solomon Hill, E'Twaun Moore, Frank Jackson, Jahlil Okafor (partial guaranteed), Christian Wood (non-guaranteed), Kenrich Williams (non-guaranteed), Davis Bertans (non-guaranteed) and first-rounder (own)

Who may be gone: Julius Randle (opt out), Elfrid Payton, Darius Miller, Cheick Diallo, Ian Clark, Stanley Johnson and Trevon Bluiett

Currently projected with $14.9 million in room if Randle opts out of his contract, New Orleans could see that number increase to $22.5 million if Hill is waived and his contract is stretched.

There is also the uncertainty surrounding Davis. Because Davis earns $27 million, it's likely that the Pelicans will take back less money in a trade, creating a little extra space.

NOPE they are signing Kyrie, keeping AD and Randle! LOL Isn't that right??

$5M with Randle, keep AD Hill not waived
$13M with Randle, keep AD and Hill waived
$14.9M no Randle, keep AD Hill not waived
$22.5M with no Randle and Hill waived
$40M with Randle, Hill waived and no AD (this also doesn't count the salaries they take back in the AD trade)
$50M with no Randle, Hill waived and no AD (this also doesn't count the salaries they take back in the AD trade)

They can barely sign a max FA with no Randle, no AD, Hill waived AND not even counting what salaries they take back.

If they took the Knicks trade they would take back around $22M but you could waive Thomas and it would be about $14M. You would have barely enough for a max FA without Randle or AD.

I could be wrong. But their best deal might be with the Lakers. I believe that if they traded AD for Ingram, Ball and Kuzma (I think those are the ones Gentry and Griffin are interested in), they would be taking back $18 million, but the Lakers would take Solomon Hill which would remove his salary without needing to stretch him.

Yeah that would definitely help taking that Hill contract either way the Pelicans would be gaining salary waiving him or trading him.
Just pairing RJ with Zion and adding Knox, Mitchell, etc. could be enticing.
Either way the offers are close, it's just really if Griffin is in control than he will make the best offer plain and simple, if he isn't, it will be difficult for the Lakers to get him.

Ingram
Kuzma
#4
#7 (trade with Bulls)
Future pick
Take Solomon Hill contract

You don't get back the young players like in the Knicks offer but you still have 3 top 10 picks (including Zion). Ingram coming up for an extension could be a negative but that's really the only issue. It just depends if they love RJ and Knox. Maybe Griffin isn't a fan of both, like myself lol. DSJ doesn't offer much. I do like Mitchell though.

Are you accounting for draft pick salaries? Those high lottery picks can add up.

Solomon Hill's contract is expiring next summer. He could be an option to dump on someone like Cleveland if they want to throw the Cavs a pick next year (in a trade for JR). The Cavs have shown interest in these deals since Lebron left as a way to amass draft capital.

Or, the Pels could hold that contract to either deal at the deadline or dump for camp space next summer. Doesn't make a lot of sense to invest in an expensive free agent this summer if AD is traded, as this will be a youth movement I would assume.

I think if the Lakers cannot get AD in a trade, I really do think they try to get Beal. It would take less than an AD trade and they could still try get a FA. Lebron, Beal and say Kyrie/Kemba could still be good. Not sure all of that is realistic but they couldn't definitely go after Beal.

It all depends on where AD ends up. I think they'll still try to get AD next summer if he goes to a rental team this summer. That said, Beal is a backup option depending on who they can get as a FA this summer. If Kawhi/Klay/Durant (all pretty unlikely, with only Kawhi somewhat of a chance) or even Butler, then Beal makes no sense. If they get Kyrie or Vucevic instead, then Beal via trade makes a lot of sense (depending on how realistic the Wiz are in their demands).
