draft picks
Lol well obviously... Was being sarcastic given they gave up 3 1st Rounders to get Deshaun.

They won't have a 1st Rd pick for a few years. So it would have to be a package of 2nd-3rd Rd picks. Guess that would do at this point.

A future 4th rounder.

If I'm the Browns I want SF to eat some of his salary, no need to pay all of it.
tough call...especially without knowing how long he's suspended. If a season I'd make it. Still tough as likely need to pick up a good chunk of that salary for a guy they likely would know they are not keeping beyond next season. Need as much cap carry over as we can get.

And, of course, if we wait for his release he likely wants to go where he can be the long term starter.

Maybe they might want to keep him

Lance will have some peaks and valleys but I expect him to be a net positive over Jimmy.

He's going to hit on way more big-time throws and while he's not Lamar or Kyler running the ball he'll still be effective enough that you can't ignore it either.

I think with him at QB he'll help the running game way more than Jimmy did. Because a large problem with Jimmy is if a defense committed to stopping the run Jimmy couldn't really make them pay by throwing it deep over their heads but Lance will bomb it over a defense if they over-commit to stopping the run.

You could likely get him to lower his salary because he ultimately knows he's likely to still get more money lower his salary in a trade than if he gets released and signed by another team.

Browns are an attractive spot for Jimmy because they are setup pretty much like the 9ers with running the ball and playing great defense, run the same offense as the 9ers, and he knows he can use the year to audition for next offseason where he would have more choices to where he wants to go.

Trey Lance sucks so he is staying. 49ers reward him for their incompetence

Translation. They wanted a high draft pick and no one flinched, so they decided to hang onto him while saving money, and Jimmy is guaranteed to be a FA next year.
Yeah... the market dried up once he got surgery. The deal represents a $7M in cap hit versus the $27M he was gonna cost them. This outcome doesn't totally surprise me after the restructure. Allows more time for a trade to get done without him hitting the market. In the meantime, they have a backup that took them to the superbowl. Sux for JG... as of right now, that surgery cost him $20M.
