When will the ACC & SEC grow a sac and play a 9 game conference schedule?

The Sun Belt would have to scramble to fill in their schedules.

When it makes sense to do so, they will do so. But at present, it doesn't make much sense to have unbalanced scheduling.

Easy, just add some teams from the Big12.

How does adding teams from the Big 12 help you schedule 9 conf games and still have room for a November cupcake? Who would you add?

When is the Big 12 gonna sac up and play a conference championship? Stop with this bullshit CO-conference champion shit

I agree. However, their CCG comes back next year as its already been approved.

I just think it's stupid to have 14 teams and only 8 games. With 12 it's fine, but with 14, some teams never play each other and I don't think that's good for the fans. But do your own thing I suppose.

Yeah, let's follow what the conferences that miss out on playoff spots are doing, that make sense.

The scheduling is already "unbalanced" as far as difficulty goes.

Here's my question:

If 9 games is such a big deal, then why don't those conferences with 9 games have tougher schedules than those with only 8 games?

Even with only 8 games, the SEC easily tops the charts on SoS.

BCF Toys - 2016 SOS Ratings

Toughest Big12 schedule: Oklahoma at #39 - and that's only because they played Ohio St and Houston.

There are 10 SEC teams and 9 ACC teams that have more difficult schedules than the #1 Big12 team.

I think maybe you should worry about getting a conference that has teams worth a shit before you worry about how many conference games everyone else is playing. Your 9 conference games seems to make your schedules weaker, not stronger.

Btw, after Oklahoma @ #39, the next Big12 team is #52 Kansas.

In between those 2, you have 3 more SEC teams and 1 more ACC team.

That leaves only 1 more SEC team left in the conference, which is Florida @ #57.

So all 14 SEC teams rank higher in SoS than the #3 Big12 team - #59 Kansas St.

How about Texas, the team of the fan crying about November games?

The SEC and ACC already have a ton of yearly cross-over rivalry games too. More than most other conferences. I'm in favor of 9, but totally get it if South Carolina doesn't want to play Clemson plus another conference foe every year. Same goes for GT/UGA, Florida/Florida St, who ever plays in the Chik-Fil-A Kickoff, etc.

That being said, I'd be more than happy to schedule recurring home and homes with Tenn

You answered your own question, thank you. SEC schedules are ranked higher because you guys play 1 less game against each other, so that's 7 less losses in the league, meaning better rankings. The Big 12, Big ten, and PAC 12 all play 9 conf games so the leagues take more losses.

That's a little too honest, in my opinion. You're not going to be popular!

This is a plausible theory about the SOS rankings, if you ignore the rankings of the SEC teams themselves.

Congratulations. You've shown us that you don't quite grasp logic. Sigh.

For the record, the SoS rankings I posted and used are based off FEI.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/fei

As you can see, it's a measure of team strength, not a matter of wins and losses, which have no direct affect on the rankings. Thus any claims that easier teams somehow make the SoS higher is extremely off base(especially since a weak team would actually lower a teams SoS in itself).

Also, if you want to see SoS for only the games played thus far, that would be the "SOP" column at the end. Poor ole Rutgers has played the most difficult schedule thus far, which isn't a surprise at all.

Big ole hard scheduling Big12 Texas? #70. Which is kind of funny because they are 2-3 and the rest of their schedule is considered harder than what they've played thus far. Of course, these things change so maybe that won't hold true.
