Max amount per year to keep him? How important do you think he is? How easy would he be to replace in the draft?

2-3 mil per tops...we have Haralyson and Aldon Smith. As much as I like the idea of a rotation, he is not good enough to pay crazy loot for...especially with the emergence of 99.

i would give him a reasonable contract for a 'good' player, he's not a 'franchise' but still productive. he isn't a sack master but does have a good overall game, just too easy to say let him go.

whats reasonable? don't have an exact number but say 75% of the franchise tag. this is one of those things where we don't appreciate it until we can't fill it.

its also too easy to think 99 can simply take his place, or Haralson for that matter? 99 IS a sack master but do we know if he can defend run? if he can't defend run close to what Brooks can, wouldn't they attack him with run?

I think a contract similar to what we gave Haralson seems reasonable.

yes....

nothing too much cause IMO he's the most replaceable among my LB starters(i said my starters since Parys does start from time to time)...

It's not like we've asked Brooks to do more than rush(well appears, since everyone just throws the ball on us)... so either draft a more potential pass rusher(ask pitt and Balt, doesn't hurt) or whatevz lol

I believe Haralson signed an extension in 2009 for 4yrs, $15M, $6.5 guaranteed. A similar contract for Brooks would be okay.

Brooks was playing on a 2 yr / 4.225 mil contract. Haralson got a 5 yr / 15 mil deal back in 2009. I'd agree that Brooks deserves the same 5 yr 15 mil that Haralson got.

Since Brooks isn't tearing it up with 10 sacks a year, I don't see his price exceeding Haralson's deal. With that, I think the 49ers should probably cut Haralson to get rid of the 3.9 mil cap hit this year, and the 4 mil cap hit next season. Assuming of course that Aldon Smith is moved into the starting lineup. Unless they can get him to take a paycut, which he probably wouldn't..
