but, scUM things never go out of style, DEPT...

I get a kick out of MSU fans calling a Michigan fan a "walverine" if you didn't go to school there. Here are the average scores for the 6000+ incoming freshman in 2015:

lol.
"walverine's" an old, innocuous joke...
everybody's heard it...
fitting, but rather tired...
bandwagon scUM fans like you help perpetuate it.
you scrape out the equivalent of a GED then spend the rest of your life bragging about how smart people who actually attended scUM are.

I'm not questioning how much of a fan he is. I'm saying he doesn't care how or what they do to have to win. He's a fan he's just a certain type. I'm not saying there aren't those types of fans at USC. I don't like fans who get drunk and act like idiots either. I've seen those at SC games too. But I wasn't responding to them .I was responding to this bama fan.

The problem with your assertion is I would have the same opinion if it was a USC player arrested. Or if it was just someone off the street who wasn't even a player. I don't give a shit about weed, and it's not illegal to own a gun.

Correlation doesn't equal causation.

I don't know about y'all but I like the Yankees, Lakers, Patriots, Bama football, and Duke basketball.
One of my really good buddies cheers for the Red Sox, Patriots, Duke, and Lebron (when I first met him he was a Heat fan, now I think he cheers for the Cavs). He's a smart dude and a really good guy to talk sports with, but he INSISTS he's not a bandwagon fan. I think he's delusional.

There are a lot of votes for "I live near there."

Does that mean that people who are not alumni, or have family/friends/significant others who are alumni, can't consider themselves fans of a national brand type of program, unless they are local?

My personal feeling is that you root for whomever you like. But you root for a school - not a team. And I will have a hard having much of a conversation with you if your only reason for rooting for a program is because they win.

But really, people can root for whoever the hell they want. Just don't talk a bunch of shit if you jumped on the bandwagon as soon as the team got good.

Also, maybe don't shit on your favorite team's rival 24/7 if you have zero connection to your favorite school.

The "I went to South Cleveland Community College but fuck Michigan in the ass" type of guys always make me chuckle.

I love when MSU fans talk as if, well, if u didn't get into UM you must have a GED. :pound:
I will put that in perspective everyone -- one of my best friends in HS was accepted into MSU in the late 90's with SUB 2.0 GPA in HS.

They could consider themselves fans of whoever they want, but in that particular case I just think that's weak as shit. "My dad, uncle, etc. went to school there." Weak.

Grew up in central PA. I didn't go to ND, don't know anybody that went to ND, never lived closer than 8 hours to ND and frankly don't give a shit what other peoples opinions are about what type of fan that makes me...I do own like 5 shirts/sweatshirts and a hat though.

Try growing up in Boise, Idaho and being a sports fan. Like most kids I loved NFL football but didn't have a team to get behind until I moved to Phoenix as an adult and became a Cards guy. There's no NFL team even close to Boise so my friends mostly like the ones somewhat near us in the Northwest like the 49ers and Seahawks and Broncos. Me, I was just hoping to see a good game when I tuned in on Sundays. And then you had college football, the best sport on this planet by a mile, but again no one what was then a 1-A school to get behind. So our family had season tickets and cheered like Hell for our local 1-AA team Boise State who truthfully wasn't very good back then and played in the Big Sky. We'd spend our Saturdays watching the Idahos and Montanas of the world kick the shit out of us routinely. Tough deal man.

I like seeing the Domers do well, but I was also raised Catholic and went to a Catholic high school.

I went to Catholic schools from 2nd to 12th. I remember a nun in 5th grade had us say a prayer for Notre dame on Fridays. lol

There are a bunch of people like him. You left out CFB. Is he now a Bama fan until they start losing?

Not me. My two favorite teams every weekend are Notre Dame's opponent on Saturday and the Dallas Cowboys' opponent on Sunday.

You seriously need to learn the difference between being a fan of a Pro Team and a college with a football team.

You need to learn the difference between being a douchebag and not being a douchebag.

Hint...you don't get to decide why anybody is anything.

I am a proud alumni of the University of Alabama. I don't begrudge anybody who wants to proclaim their affiliation with my team. Now there are some that I wish we didn't have as fans...but some of them are also alumni. Now, I might have a low opinion of someone who claims to be a fan of Alabama and Tennessee for example, but my opinion doesn't influence whether they get to call themselves a fan or not.

That's the one that he isn't totally a bandwagon fan for. He's a Nebraska fan...he grew up here but didn't go to school there. That brings up an interesting point...I don't think going to school there should be a requirement, at least for a school like Nebraska. I'm currently posting from a little rural town of about 2,000 in northeastern Nebraska where my grandpa lives. The people up here (and in communities like this all across NE) are just as die hard Nebraska fans as alums, but they often haven't gone to college. Don't need a college degree to take over the family farming operation. Husker football is just part of the identity of the state, whether you went to school there or not. I'm not gonna tell somebody that has spent the last 30 years listening to the game broadcasts on the radio from the cab of their combine during harvest season that they aren't just as much a fan as me. That said, a lot of the kids this generation are leaving the small towns to go to school, and most of them end up in Lincoln.

The argument was never about who can be a fan or what two teams a person can be a fan of. It's about people who are fans and could give a shit what that school or coach or players do as long as they win. My point was some one who has no connection to the school, never even been on campus, couldn't find it on a map. Is most likely to be that kind of fan.

do you also love it when everyone calls you a liar?
only perspective here is YOU didn't/couldn't attend scUM - but you think buying a scUM t-shirt at WalMart gives you the right to call anybody ELSE who didn't attend scUM a loser.
