We have been saying this going back to Marty days, what (fill in the blank) would ever work for Snyder? Then they all seem to put that aside and sign once he meets them and offers an insane deal?
Exactly. And we almost always get retreads or flawed hires.

Although the writing does seem to be on the wall (SM not involved in the day-to-day for a while, no talking to the press, not at the combine for dubious reasons, etc.), I think it's also important to note that it's entirely possible that SM is not struggling through any demons, was super busy and slightly "in the doghouse" with regards to not talking to the press, and has to attend to family matters relating to his grandmother's death just like it was reported.

Saying that differently: most of the press is awfully interested in creating drama for the redskins wether there is or is not drama there to create. Take KC's contract as an example: "He's going to be traded!!! He won't be signed!!! A better solution might be to trade him to the niners!!!" were all written by the press, and all that has happened so far is that KC has been given the exclusive tag.

Now, it's entirely possible that "KC doesn't like being here!!!!" or "The redskins are in big trouble next year!!!" but it's also entirely possible that the redskins will sign KC long term, just like Coach Gruden - perhaps the most honest of them all - says that they will.

Just my .02.

No we get very accomplished hires who come here and turn stupid. This is another example.
Do they turn stupid or does the organization make them look stupid with the games. And in the last 10 years, outside of Shanahan, who was very accomplished that we hired? SM had some success, but I wouldn't call him very accomplished. Over the last decade, our hires are usually only those that are not being courted by anyone else. Zorn is a great example of how we get stuck with a guy like that since no one else would come here. Remember,, he was originally hired as the OC. But we couldn't find another to take the HC position (probably since we hired a quirky OC first and was going to make the new HC live with him) so all the sudden Zorn is the guy. Allen is also an example of this. He was poison to the rest of the league and was hired here primarily as a good will gesture to try and win the fan base back. He was more of a Public Relations guy to appeal to us old time nostalgic fans that Dan was losing. All the sudden, he is the de facto GM. Why? Because no one else would take the job.

Chiller, it is possible that KC is signed long term this year. And I just saw an interview on NFL net with his agent so I've stepped back off the ledge a bit. He swears they are still working toward a long term agreement and both parties want it. But with SM not attending the premier draft prospect event and his claim to fame is evaluating college talent and putting together successful drafts, something is seriously wrong at Redskins Park. And where there is smoke, there is fire. You can't convince me that Agents dealing with the Reskins FO right now arent seriously concerned and really wonder if this is the best spot for their clients long term success.

All of what you said is true, j_y19. I just wanted to point out that perhaps the most honest person at redskins park is Jon Gruden. Any coach who calls out their own qb, who routinely says "I have to coach better. I messed up," especially after everybody and their mother can plainly see that "(you) need to coach better, (you) messed up," has at least a shred of integrity/honesty.

Also, if SM is in fact in relapse / rehab, then the prudent and most professional thing to do would be to cover for him in some way. The case can be made that the redskins ARE covering for him in some way by saying that he has "family issues" to clean up.

I would hope that potential free agents aren't signing with the redskins because of their love for SM, but instead because they think they could be successful in the system Gruden has in place, and they like the coaches and the other players. After all, do players really have THAT MUCH time wiht the GM? I don't think so...

Very good pts. And let's be real - assuming that your team is somewhat successful the reason most FAs sign is for the $$. The Redskins may have their flaws, but they certainly are not on par with say the Browns in this respect (especially if Cousins stays w/ the team).

Of course the TMZ type media (Florio, First Take, etc) will ignore the interview w/ Cousins' agent & instead focus on some random rumor about the 49ers. Peter King was on ESPN this morning & he made this big deal about nobody in the Redskins FO saying anything about wanting to keep Cousins long term. WTF? Is he stupid? Bruce Allen made numerous pts lately about signing Cousins & keeping him long term.

How convenient of King to ignore this. What a lazy journalist. Pretty much nobody in the modern era does any fact checking or worries about things being accurate. Their motto is basically that if it is part of a tweet then it must have some truth to it.

Oh that is my point, the mess of an organization has turned very accomplished men into idiots. It's not the men its the owner. Marty had a damned good resume before landing here, so did Shanahan and Mr. Gibbs. Now add SM to the list. Even before this situation as discussed at length his drafts and FA pickups were very very disappointing to date.

'It's all bullsh**, he's not fired' is the word on Scot McCloughan, per source

Follow up on this story. Perhaps many of us (myself included) are overreacting to this story. It appears that SM may simply be conducting business elsewhere while he tends to family matters. People do it all of the time. Good catch by Chiller about how this might be another case of media blowing things out of proportion.

Ok this is what I am going with , BA, SM,and the wife say it's death of the grandmother and that is balanced by the shithead unnamed source. Sorry but for now I am going with BA/SM/wife.

One other thing , any asshole that has to fact check the time of death is a jack off

Leave the guy alone and his family . Who is to say how the greiving process should go

So we should simply dismiss the bizarre behavior such as SM sitting 50 yards away from the rest of the Redskins people and take the word of his wife and agent that nothing is up? Um....not so fast for me.

No but we also should be careful about jumping to conclusions that this automatically means that SM is hitting the bottle again or that it is part of a master plan for the Skins to get rid of him. Let's just wait & see how this turns out.

Regardless of the reasons sitting apart from the rest Allen, Gruden etc, being banned from the media, and then not showing for the most important day of the year to date for NFL personnel people is just too much smoke to ignore. And that does not even count the reports of him being banned from Redskins Park and of course not hiring any of his own people in the scouting department.

Who knows what is really going on. Clearly something is up with SM. Maybe it is just family issues. But he has been neutered to an extent. The funny thing is the FO could put an end to all of this with an official statement that SM is the GM now and will be the GM going forward. End of story. But they don't. Why, I have to ask.

There are tons of possibilities as to what is going on. It is time to wait and see what happens, for me anyhow. Only a couple of people know for sure.

$24 million per is the least Cousins is going to sign for. McCartney says he is being compensated very well this year. I don't think he plans on going lower than that.

And if he's in rehab, tell us. Covering up something like that just ends up making it worse. Nowadaze succesfully hiding something like is nearly impossible. No GM misses the combine crap because their grandmother died weeks ago - that excuse just makes it look like you're hiding something... and that your organization is incredibly inept. Realize that no Skins fan with a brain in his head will accept going back to Allen and the clown factory making personnel decisions.

I guess one theory being thrown out is that they want SM out of the way while they cut a deal for Cousins w/ the implication being that SM is the one objecting the most to the extension. Who knows - just need to ride it out. I am done w/ expecting any type of honest explanations or reasonable actions coming from Redskins Park. It would almost be insane to expect things along those lines.

Agreed. And I find it hard to blame SM when he was the one who finally said enough with RG3 - Cousins is our starter. SM was the original Cousins guy - as far as the guys in the front office.

Look it really does not matter the reason, the fact is our GM is not at the combine and that is a huge huge issue that should mean plenty. Agree with Ruz, good to see you again by the way, the Grandmother story is a bunch of crap. A guy who lives and breaths the draft does not miss the combine because his 100 year old grandmother died a month ago, give me a break.
