No I prefer The Sky is Falling approach. I mean we are fans of the Washington Redskins. We can't have nice things.

SM is gone, next Cousins to the Niners for a pick and back to being mathematically eliminated before Halloween for the foreseeable future.

Well - if SM is having alcohol issues & in rehab I just read where perhaps the team is not allowed to comment in any way & perhaps they are handling it in a clumsy manner - we will see. As for Cousins - not really sure if SM being here hurts or helps the situation since it is very hard to tell if he was pro or anti Cousins. I still believe that Cousins will be here for at least the upcoming season - don't see that trade working out now for either side & those rumor now seem to be more wishful thinking from 49ers media outlets.

For what it's worth a lot of reports are circulating that Kirk really does not want to be here and will not sign a long term deal. If true I was totally wrong, never believed a word of that as I thought it was just posturing. Now this one I'll wait on because there is nothing resolved. SM on the other hand has been resolved IMO.

It does make sense that if it was alcohol they can't say anything legally. But it came out later from SF and later Seattle. And it will eventually come out here too.

Note that a lot of those reports are based on one story repeated over & over & over again. I swear a lot of these modern day media types are some of the laziest people on the planet. You will also notice that a lot of these stories are from SF based media. I don't believe any of the Cousins stories at this time - one way or another.

As for SM - if this is alcohol related then I really can't blame the Redskins except perhaps the fact that they are handling this in a clumsy fashion. This is the risk that they took when he was hired. If this is true then I just hope that SM gets his life in order & that the team moves forward quickly with a new GM & not Allen. Now if the truth is something else then this is certainly cause for concern.

The Post is reporting that SM was not at Redskins Park today, he first day of free agent negotiations. Now this is probably not speculation, I mean he was either there or he wasn't.

Damn this guy really really did love his grandmother. What an outstanding American. I hope he is able to get through the grieving process before the draft but you never know. As we all learned this week nobody can predict how long a person takes to grieve the loss of a 100 year old grandmother.

Why is this news? Did anyone actually believe that he would be back at Redskins Park today? I can't believe that so many media outlets are reporting this as if this is some sort of Breaking News. What a joke.

I agree. I wonder what the media will do when we fire SM and hire Doug Williams immediately. I am sure they will have a field day with that one.

Wait so the media speculation that he was not at the combine were dismissed as "not so fast, let's wait and see". Now we have follow up news that he was not at Redskins Park on the first day of free agency negotiations and they are wrong for reporting that too? is this not newsworthy? That the GM was not at work? If there was nothing to the earlier reports of him missing the combine, as there may be a logical reason such as a death in the family, then there surely would be a story that he is still not working right?

What exactly are they supposed to do to earn their paycheck anyway according to you gus? They are wrong for reporting the combine situation, they are wrong to report this. Just what are they supposed to report?

Bruce has said ... and the media has reported ad nauseum ... he is dealing with a family matter & would return when he was ready.

Washington Redskins president Bruce Allen said general manager Scot McCloughan, absent from the scouting combine, would return to work once his family matters are cleared up, though the timetable remains uncertain.

thats their story & they are sticking to it.

Redskins' Allen: GM to return when all is 'OK'

weather that is true or not ... only time will tell.

why are we stomping a mud hole into this dead horse ?

The reason McCloughan has been so great was because of his offseason decisions mainly free agency and nfl draft prep. He has missed the combine and now the start of free agency. No matter if for any reason is this not good news for us. Death in his family, rumors drinking again, or aliens kidnapped him the man thing is true he isn't at the helm steering the ship when we need him the most. We have to rely on Allen & Snyder to hold down the fort while McCloughan is gone and thats horrible news to hear. Who is going to tackle Snyder from writing checks during FA while Scotty is gone?

my issue is ... we're not adding anything new to the story by reporting and posting about the same thing ... over & over & over ....

I would be interested in new information.

Such as the terms of Scots contract that might be keeping him, but not his wife, from speaking to the media.

Because until we get his version of the story ... there is not much to add to the conversation.

Sadly the two scenarios I see playing out will leave us with few answers.

Either Scot returns to Redskins Park and resumes his duty as if nothing was ever wrong ...

or they dismiss him, find a replacement ... in which case they will more then likely pay him off and force him to sign a non disclosure agreement about what really took place.

Good one - extra pts for creativity (a lot more than you can say for most of these hacks that are reporting this crap).

They can do whatever they like. I am just stating that this is not news - there was absolutely no reason for anyone to think that SM would be at Redskins Park today - yet for some reason this was on the front page of ESPN. This is like reporting "Cousins does not sign long term extension". Pretty much means nothing.

This is scary scary news and I don't think people realize this. Yes we knew McCloughan had red flags but so did Allen & Snyder. Is McCloughan upset about the handling of KC, has he been drinking, has he, has he, but mainly how can we get him back NOW should be the question. Snyder with a lot of cap space and a blank check book, Allen with his poor decision making ability and those two are now running the show. :gaah: I hope those 2 don't make any permanent decisions while McCloughan is AWOL. I rather us lose out on FA's then us spend way to much on one for to many years.

Yeah, the scariest news is that Bruce Allen is in charge. That's the red flag that's stuck up... well. It doesn't bode well. It seemed like the franchise was headed in the right direction, and now we're likely reverting to the bad old days. I hope I'm wrong.
