You may not be old enough to remember, but back in the early 90's they were referred to as 'we backs' instead of I backs because they were both on the field at the same time or rotated a lot.

Scotty Baldwin and Derek Brown were 'we backs'

I forgot Calvin Jones..He was a we back in 92..

Actually;

Calvin and Derek were considered the true webacks! ;)

Another one of my favorite players from that time period was Corey Dixon.

LOL @ T.O may think that!

LOL, you remember Tom Osborne, right?

Pelini made the right decision by pulling out Martinez, but instead of benching him the whole game, he may have benched him for a series or two.

Pulling Martinez was the WRONG decision by Pelini. If Martinez really is the QB of the future then you HAVE TO allow him to work through the rough times. And I don't think it was all that rough. Otherwise he will never learn how to pull himself up when everything isn't going his way.

As for Scotty Baldwin, man I loved watching him run. He was not part of the "we backs" though. He may be my favorite criminal Husker of all time. :)

Sad story really..He was an NU running back back in the day that had some mental issues. One night police were called to a disturbance and two Omaha female officers found him naked running the streets. They got in an altercation and one of the female officers shot Scotty. He's now paralized for life..

SPORTS PEOPLE: FOOTBALL; Former Nebraska Player Is Paralyzed - New York Times

He really did hold a lot of responsibility for becoming paralyzed. He got off of his medication because it interfered with his ability to work out. He was hoping for a Professional football career even though he about beat an innocent woman to death at a park. What if he would've got a hold of the policewoman's gun he was trying to unholster? He very possibly could've killed one or more of those police officers.

Can you imagine if the altercation with those two police officers didn't happen, and one night as a professional football player on a Monday Night football game, he ran out on the field completely naked except for his helmet, to the delight of a national television audience?!

You have a point about not pulling Martinez.
Also, the thing about Baldwin that makes me wonder just how mentally ill he really was, is the fact that I'm sure there were men around the park who he could've attacked, but why did he have to attack a woman?

I may have the answer... That woman was much easier prey and that monster Baldwin knew it.

I agree. It's getting more and more difficult all the time to remember Husker events to a certain year. The 70's (post 71) have totally run together, The 80's are completely amalgamated because I was either overseas or in the south. The 90's are still fairly straight for me.

Martinez should only have been pulled for a series or two to get his head on straight.

As far as Baldwin. I had him in a history class at UNL and he was an excellent debater, which really impressed me. The woman was unfortunately alone in the area. When LPD arrived; he then focused his attention on kicking their asses..

I'm 100% sure he had opportunities to attack men, but maybe he couldn't find any 110LB men around?

Pulling Martinez for a series or two may have made a huge impact and having an alternative set of plays ready in case UT completely stopped his threat of running, in which they did, would've been a good thing to do.

South Dakota State did an excellent job of containing him, so who would even consider that UT would contain him like they did since they have way better athletes than SDS!!!

Oh by the way, did you hear about the incident after he was kicked off of the team where he slapped a woman who spurned his advances?

It's obvious he had a thing against women.
